Open content is material that anyone can use, free of charge, with only a few restrictions. The content, in this case, is raw footage shot for NOVA's "Car of the Future" documentary. We at NOVA hope it will fuel your creativity and foster a sharing of ideas. It's our latest way of highlighting the "Public" in PBS.
How will the car of the future be powered?
Will it run on hydrogen, batteries, ethanol or some as-yet undiscovered technology?
Find out as NOVA takes a look at the latest and greatest in the automotive industry. Tom and Ray Magliozzi of "NPR's Car Talk" fame take viewers on a roller-coaster ride into the world of cars - examining new technologies and ideas about America's most common form of transportation. With constantly increasing prices at the pump and a growing concern about the impact of emissions on global warming, there is a keen interest in alternative fuel sources to power our cars. The hydrogen fuel cell has long been the holy grail of zero emissions energy, and countries like Iceland are trying out the technology by transforming their public transportation.
Closer to home, there are attempts to create fuels like "biodiesel" - made of used vegetable oil - or ethanol from corn crops. Will these be our future fuels or just a useful intermediate? Can an all-electric sports car being developed in California change the face of driving for good?
With in-depth interviews and the unique humor of the much-loved Magliozzi brothers, "Car of the Future" takes a light-hearted but knowledgeable look at the serious issue of what's to come for our transportation.

Va rula pe bază de hidrogen, baterii, etanol sau pe baza unor viitoare tehnologii, încă nedescoperite?
Află că NOVA a şi aruncat o privire la cele mai recente şi mai mari (inovaţii tehnologice) din industria de automobile. Tom şi Ray Magliozzi de la "NPR's Car Talk" au luat câţiva telespectatori pentru un tur în lumea de automobilelor - examinând noile tehnologii şi idei despre cea mai comună formă de transport a Americii. Datorită constantei creşteri a preţurilor la carburanţi şi amplificării îngrijorării asupra impactului emisiilor asupra încălzirii globale, există la ora actuală un deosebit interes pentru sursele alternative de combustibil care să alimenteze maşinile noastre. Motorul cu combustibil pe bază de hidrogen a fost mult timp un soi "Sfânt Graal" de energie cu zero emisii, şi ţări ca Islanda caută modificarea tehnologiei în primul rând la nivel de transport public.
Mai aproape de noi (SUA), există tentative de a crea combustibili de genul "biodiesel" - din cel mai folosit ulei vegetal - sau etanol din culturi de porumb. Vor fi aceştia viitori noştri combustibili oare, sau doar o tranziţie utilă? Poate oare maşina sport în curs de elaborare din California, total electrică, schimba viziunea despre automobilism pentru totdeauna?
Cu interviuri de profunzime şi umor aparte al mult iubişilor fraţi Magliozzi, "Automobilul Viitorului", face lumină dar şi informează asupra problemelor serioase a ceea ar putea să devină transportul nostru. |
