A life and death duel between the graceful springbok and the fastest predator on land under the fierce Kalahari sun. Travel with National Geographic to the vast Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park that straddles South Africa and Botswana. The open terrain and abundance of suitable prey make this an ideal habitat for these beautiful cats. Cheetahs have pursued their main prey, the Springbok, for thousands of years here, honing each other to ever greater skills and speed.
This is a spectacle of grace and beauty as the fastest land animals on earth race to survive in the ancient riverbeds of the Kalahari. There are intimate and dramatic moments too:
* Rare footage of cheetahs courting and mating
* Male cheetahs fighting to contest their territories
* A gemsbok (oryx) cow rescues her calf from two cheetahs as they try to strangle it
* A cheetah is tossed on the horns of a wildebeest mother and somersaulted through the air as she attempts to save her calf.
This contest between predator and prey is among the great natural dramas of wildlife viewing. We also look at some of the other Kalahari wildlife, including steenbok, ostriches and meerkats.
This film was made in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with the help of the South African National Parks. Narrated by Lance Lewman.
