Ben Affleck este Nick Dunne, soţ fericit şi împlinit. La cea de-a cincea aniversare a căsătoriei sale cu Amy (Rosamund Pike), viaţa sa ia o întorsătură tragică, căci Amy dispare fără urmă din locuinţa lor de pe râul Mississippi.
