Plot:
Down and out rock star Dewey Finn (Black) gets fired from his band, and he faces a mountain of debts and depression. He takes a job as a 4th grade substitute teacher at an uptight private school where his attitude and hijinx have a powerful effect on his students. He also meets Zack, a 10-year-old guitar prodigy, who could help Dewey win a "battle of the bands" competition, which would solve his financial problems and put him back in the spotlight.

Chitarist rebel care crede cel mai mult in puterea nelimitata a rock and rollului, avand o predilectie pentru sariturile in mijlocul spectatorilor in timpul spectacolelor precum si pentru solo la chitara excesiv de lung, Dewey este ferm hotarat sa-si conduca trupa catre castigarea concursului Batalia trupelor.
Dar trupa il concediaza.

Singur si fara bani nici macar pentru chiria apartamentului plin de cutii goale de conserve, Dewey accepta prima slujba care i se ofera si anume aceea de profesor suplinitor la prestigioasa scoala Horace Green.
Aici el este atent supravegheat de profesoara Mullins (Joan Cusack).

Evident ca Dewey este paralel cu talentul didactic dar stie foarte bine cum sa si-i apropie pe copii. Iar atunci cand din intamplare asista la o lectie de muzica decide pe loc sa transforme aceste mici talente muzicale intr-o trupa de rock care le va schimba viata.
