Prinsă într-o relație violentă cu un om de știință genial și bogat, dar obsedat de control, Cecilia Kass (Moss) reușește să fugă în miezul nopții și să se ascundă cu ajutorul surorii sale (Harriet Dyer, din The InBetween), a prietenului lor din copilărie (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) și a fiicei adolescente a acestuia (Storm Reid, Euphoria).
Dar când fostul său partener (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, din The Haunting of Hill House) se sinucide, și îi lasă o parte mare din uriașa lui avere, Cecilia începe să suspecteze că moartea lui nu e decât o farsă. Pe măsură ce începe să fie confruntată cu coincidențe din ce în ce mai sinistre, care pun în pericol viața celor dragi ei, Cecilia simte că sănătatea ei mentală e tot mai fragilă, din cauza eforturilor ei disperate de a le dovedi celorlalți că e hărțuită de o ființă care nu poate fi văzută.
