Un inger cazut, Sammael, a cerut ca 'lumea de mijloc' sa apartina partii intunecate. Cu ajutorul acolitilor sai amenintatori si inarmati, el a sufocat orasul intunecat si mohorat in vicii, violente si cruzime.
Victoria lui Sammael este asigurata - pana la sosirea lui Gabriel, ultimul dintre cei sapte arhangheli ai Cerului. Gabriel este tanar, puternic si a devenit cel mai puternic luptator de cand Mihail, predecesorul sau, a disparut.
In scurta vreme, curajul si indrazneala lui Gabriel ameninta sa decimeze ajutoarele malefice ale lui Sammael si sa il salveze pe Jade, ingerul cu inima de aur care s-a pierdut. Dar Sammael mai are un ultim atu: un secret din propriul sau trecut, care, daca Gabriel il afla, l-ar putea distruge pe arhanghel pentru totdeauna.
