Plot:
It is the year 2029: Astronaut Leo Davidson boards a pod cruiser on a Space Station for a "routine" reconnaissance mission. But an abrupt detour through a space time wormhole lands him on a strange planet where talking apes rule over the human race. Astronautul Leo Davidson se prăbușește cu nava pe care o pilota pe o planetă stranie, unde maimuțele sunt stăpâne, iar oamenii sclavi. Aceasta era ideea centrală a romanului „Planeta maimuțelor” al lui Pierre Boulle, care a fost ecranizat în 1968 și a devenit una dintre cele mai celebre referințe în literatura și filmul science-fiction.
Apariția neașteptată pe planeta stăpânită de maimuțe a căpitanului Leo Davidson, străin de ordinea instaurată și neafectat de aceasta, servește oamenilor înrobiți de pe planetă drept catalizator pentru o schimbare socială.
Regizorul Tim Burton - renumit pentru filme precum Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice și Sleepy Hollow - a preluat ideea romanului lui Boulle și a imaginat o călătorie într-o lume neobișnuită și fantastică. "N-am intenționat să realizez un remake sau o continuare a primului „Planeta maimuțelor”, ci să provoc o reîntoarcere în acea lume fantastică”, explică regizorul.
