1941 is a 1979 period comedy film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by friends Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. It starred John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd and premiered in December 1979. The film is a comedy about a panic in the Los Angeles area that occurs after the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
Although it was not as financially or critically successful as Spielberg's previous (and later) films, it received belated recognition after being aired on ABC in an expanded version, and its subsequent successful home video reissues, raising the film to a cult status.[2]
Co-writer Bob Gale stated the plot is loosely based on an incident that has come to be known as the West Coast air raid or Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942 as well as the shelling of the Ellwood oil refinery, near Santa Barbara by a Japanese submarine. Many of the other events in the film were based on real incidents, including the Zoot Suit Riots and an incident where the Army really did put an anti-aircraft gun in the yard of a homeowner on the coast (in Maine).[3]

It's been six days since the attack on Pearl Harbor. Panic grips California, supposedly the next target of the Japanese forces. Everywhere in California, people are suffering from war nerves. Chaos erupts all over the state. An Army Air Corps Captain, a civilian with a deranged sense of Nationalism, civilian defenders, and a Motor Pool crew all end up on the trail of a lost Japanese sub that has picked Hollywood as their own target. Will these people be able to defend their homes? Will they be able to preserve the safety in California? Will they be able to get a hold of themselves?

Actiunea se petrece pe coastele Californiei, in primele zile dupa dezastrul provocat de japonezi flotei Statelor Unite de la Pearl Harbor. Panica e pe cale sa-i cuprinda pe californieni, care se asteapta la o invazie. Si in timp ce un ditamai general de armata este insarcinat cu apararea coastei, comandantul unui submarin japonez din zona are cu totul altfel de probleme, nestiind cum sa procedeze cu o tanara inotatoare, esuata pe cosul submarinului. Toti tinerii sunt cuprinsi de patriotismul cel mai inflacarat: un pilot survoleaza neobosit granitele, sfarsind prin a se prabusi in mijlocul Bulevardului Hollywood, un localnic e incantat ca, in sfarsit, isi va putea testa tunurile instalate, acasa tanchistii fac exercitii, ofiterii au acum ocazia sa se faleasca in fata iubitelor…
