In inima vaii Dordogne din Franta, regiune incarcata de istorie si de frumuseti naturale, o echipa de studenti la arheologie impreuna cu profesorul lor muncesc cu indarjire sa scoata la iveala ruinele unui castel din secolul XIV.
Pentru profesorul Edward Johnston (Billy Connolly) acest proiect reprezinta apogeul carierei sale – un vis pentru care traieste.
Ajutat de asistentul sau Andre Marek (Gerald Butler) si de fiul sau (Paul Walker) precum si de studentii Kate (Frances O’Connor), Stern (Ethan Embry) si Francois (Rossif Sutherland) el vrea sa scoata la iveala nu numai castelul La Roque dar si o manastire inconjurata de o asezare – localitatea Castelgard.
Dar lucrurile o iau razna...
Fiind circumspect in ceea ce priveste sponsorul expeditiei, o companie numita International Technology Corporation (ITC) si mai ales in ceea ce priveste pe seful acesteia, profesorul pleaca la New Mexico pentru a obtine anumite raspunsuri.
In lipsa lui, continuind sapaturile, studentii descopera o camera in care nu s-a intrat de 600 de ani. Ei intra, dar surpriza – in camera gasesc o lentila bifocala care nu exista acum 600 de ani precum si un manuscris in care se cere ajutor. Mesajul este datat 2 aprilie 1357 si este semnat de profesorul Johnston.
Hotarati sa dezlege misterul, studentii se adreseaza celor de la ITC unde afla ca seful firmei are o masina ce poate transporta obiecte tridimensionale in spatiu si timp. Dispozitivul este destinat sa revolutioneze transportul.
Profesorul a insistat sa experimenteze pe viu inventia si acum se afla prins in razboiul anglo- francez, undeva in evul mediu.
Va supravietui, se va putea intoarce in sec XXI?
