Michael Oher este un adolescent afro-american, analfabet și supraponderal, din Memphis. El provine dintr-o familie cu 13 copii în care tatăl a fost ucis, iar mama este dependentă de droguri. A fost plasat de 6 ori în familii adoptive și a fugit de fiecare dată. Norocul băiatului se schimbă atunci când este adoptat de către soții Leigh Anne și Sean Touhy, care îi oferă un cămin stabil, iubire, compasiune și o educație corespunzătoare, înscriindu-l la un colegiu la care obține o bursă sportivă. Îndrumat de către noii părinți, Michael Oher dobândește încredere în forțele proprii și este capabil să își valorifice potențialul, agilitatea, viteza, conștiinciozitatea și puterile proprii, atrăgând atenția multor colegii de prestigiu. În cele din urmă, tânărul alege sa se duca la"Ole Miss", deoarece Sean a fost jucător acolo, iar Anne majoretă. Michael a fost selectat în echipa Baltimore Ravens și are șansa de a juca în Campionatul American de fotbal profesionist.
