It is the height of the war in Vietnam, and U.S. Army Captain Willard
is sent by Colonel Lucas and a General to carry out a mission that,
officially, 'does not exist - nor will it ever exist'. The mission: To
seek out a mysterious Green Beret Colonel, Walter Kurtz, whose army has
crossed the border into Cambodia and is conducting hit-and-run missions
against the Viet Cong and NVA. The army believes Kurtz has gone
completely insane and Willard's job is to eliminate him! Willard, sent
up the Nung River on a U.S. Navy patrol boat, discovers that his target
is one of the most decorated officers in the U.S. Army. His crew meets
up with surfer-type Lt-Colonel Kilgore, head of a U.S Army helicopter
cavalry group which eliminates a Viet Cong outpost to provide an entry
point into the Nung River. After some hair-raising encounters, in which
some of his crew are killed, Willard, Lance and Chef reach Colonel
Kurtz's outpost, beyond the Do Lung Bridge. Now, after becoming
prisoners of Kurtz, will Willard & the others be able to fulfill
their mission?

Sinopsis:
Cum s-ar descrie "APOCALYPSE NOW"? Ei bine, este cu singuranta ambitios, salbatic, haotic, nebunesc si peste toate acestea, exceptional. Filmul inspirat din romanul lui Joseph Conrad, "Inima Intunericului", povesteste calatoria capitanulului Willard (Martin Sheen) insarcinat sa-l lichideze pe colonelul Kurtz (Marlon Brando), un fost ofiter de rang inalt care inebuneste, creandu-si propria lui "lume" in adincul junglei din Vietnam.
In timp ce calatoreste in susul riului pentru a-l intilni pe Brando, Martin Sheen reflecta mai mult asupra experientelor avute in cariera sa militara, filmul capatind un accent ciudat si hipnotizant. Il intilneste pe Oscar (Robert Duvall), un alt ofiter care si-a pierdut mintile, si care adora "mirosul de napalm, dimineata". Impreuna cu escadrila sa de elicoptere, Duvall ia cu asalt satele vietnameze si distruge tot ce sta in cale.
Multe situatii de acest gen conduc la transformarea actiunii intr-un adevarat haos. Este unul dintre cele mai mari filme despre sau impotriva razboilui care s-au realizat vreodata. Excelenta realizare care merita 5 stele din 5.
"In termeni artistici, "Apocalipsul acum", a devenit un film istoric; in termeni financiari - o superproductie. Filmul este mai putin o meditatie asupra razboiului, cat mai degraba o incercare de a ne face sa simtim visceral, cum nici un film nu s-a hazardat s-o faca." - Michael Dempsey - 1979 (Sight and Sound).

Īn timpul Războiului din Vietnam, căpitanul Willard (Martin Sheen) primește ordinul de a găsi și "lichida fără niciun fel de scrupule" pe un comandant al Forțelor Speciale, colonelul Kurtz (Marlon Brando), care a trecut de partea dușmanului. Călătoria lui Willard este, īn aparență, o poveste plină de aventuri, dar, la fel de evident, este o alegorie a demenței războiului și a descoperirii de sine. Īn cele din urmă, cānd Brando īși face apariția, filmul devine o interogație filosofică asupra misterelor insolubile ale nebuniei și răului din oameni.
