Filmul povesteste viata, moartea si invierea lui Brian din Nazaret, un profet evreu, care vrea sa elibereze Nazaretul de opresiunile romanilor. Brian s-a nascut in noaptea de Craciun intr-un grajd, la fel ca Iisus. Oamenii l-au receptat gresit pe acest profet si il considera Mesia. Filmul nu este despre Iisus, ci despre cei pe care nu i-a interesat sau nu au avut timp sa-i asculte mesajul. In Life of Brian exista multe aluzii politice si sociale.
