PLOT
Phoenix officeworker Marion Crane is fed up
with the way life has treated her. She has
to meet her lover Sam in lunch breaks and
they cannot get married because Sam has to
give most of his money away in alimony. One
Friday Marion is trusted to bank $40,000 by
her employer. Seeing the opportunity to take
the money and start a new life, Marion
leaves town and heads towards Sam's
California store. Tired after the long drive
and caught in a storm, she gets off the main
highway and pulls into The Bates Motel. The
motel is managed by a quiet young man called
Norman who seems to be dominated by his
mother.

Anthony Perkins îl interpretează pe Norman Bates, ale cărui casă și motel sunt cele mai neindicate locuri pentru a-ți petrece o seară liniștită. Nimeni nu știe asta mai bine decât Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), ghinionista călătoare a cărei drumeție ia sfârșit în celebra scenă din duș, în această adaptare după romanul omonim de Robert Bloch.
Mai întai un detectiv privat (Martin Balsam), apoi sora lui Marion (Vera Miles) pornesc în căutarea ei până când suspansul și teroarea ating cote maxime, în momentul demascării ucigașului.
Cel mai celebru thriller din istoria cinematografului, cu soluții regizorale încă și azi proaspăte și surprinzătoare, un film care a inspirat generații de regizori. Mai nou s-a făcut o variantă modernă, cu scena dușului filmată identic ca la Hitchcock, violentă și controversată (ca să nu mai pomenim de sutele de parodii).

Ceea ce m-a interesat a fost să impresionez publicul cu ajutorul montajului, al imaginii, al benzii sonore și a tot ceea ce este pur tehnic.
