Memento (2000)
| Memento is a neo-noir–psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, based on his brother Jonathan's short story "Memento Mori." The film stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby, a former insurance fraud investigator searching for his wife's murderer. During the attack on his wife, Leonard suffered severe head trauma and lost the ability to make new memories. To cope with his condition, he keeps a collection of notes, photographs, and tattoos to remind himself of people, places, things, and events he cannot remember. He is aided in his investigation by "Teddy" (Joe Pantoliano) and Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss), who are both of dubious dependability. |

Plot:
Leonard (Guy Pearce) is an insurance investigator whose memory has been damaged following a head injury he sustained after intervening on his wife's murder. His quality of life has been severely hampered after this event, and he can now only live a comprehendable life by tattooing notes on himself and taking pictures of things with a Polaroid camera. The movie is told in forward flashes of events that are to come that compensate for his unreliable memory, during which he has liaisons with various complex characters. Leonard badly wants revenge for his wife's murder, but, as numerous characters explain, there may be little point if he won't remember it in order to provide closure for him. The movie veers between these future occurrences and a telephone conversation Leonard is having in his motel room in which he compares his current state to that of a client whose claim he once dealt with.

UNELE AMINTIRI E MAI BINE SĂ LE UIȚI
Un bărbat amnezic care nu-și mai poate aminti evenimentele recente, folosește notițe și tatuaje pentru a da de urmă ucigașului soției lui.
Secvența uimitoare și antologică de la începutul lui Memento implică o crimă și un polaroid cu un cadavru. Fotografia alunecă înapoi în cameră, glonțul e absorbit pe țeava pistolului și Leonard, personajul principal, începe să trăiască invers. Se spune că memoria este unul dintre elementele cheie care separă oamenii de animale și că e un dat esențial al condiției umane. Memento e preocupat de toate aspectele ei, mai ales de felul în care poate fi manipulată. Filmul lui Christopher Nolan e unul dintre acele rare și autentice triumfuri din istoria regiei de film moderne, pentru că reușește să fie inovator, proaspăt, șic și excitant, fără să-și obosească audiența. Întregul film este astfel construit încât să reflecte starea mentală a personajului principal, în același timp, lăsându-i spectatorului dreptul la o proprie perspectivă.
Memento nu se rezumă la a fi doar o premisă inspirată. În definitiv, e un film noir în pură tradiție clasică, un mistery thriller: un bărbat care nu-și poate aminti evenimentele recente, are de dus la capăt o răzbunare și e atras în plasa unei femme fatale impecabile și implacabile (Matrix babe Carrie Anne Moss). Ceea ce face filmul deosebit este structura sa inovatoare - începe cu finalul și se sfârșește aproape de început. E filmat și editat în așa fel încât evenimentele sunt prezentate într-o cronologie inversă. Mai mult, există două povești paralele care se intersectează și care alcătuiesc un puzzle revelator, unde suspansul amețitor rezonează cu emoția pură.
