Sinopsis
The film is based on the novel with the same title by Áron Tamási (1897-1966). The first part of the trilogy is set in Transylvania of the 1920’s. Abel, the protagonist, is a clever teenage boy, who has to leave his home and his family because they are so poor, and his father accompanies him into the mountains where he has to become a forest ranger guarding the logged firewood belonging to the bank of the nearest town. Up there he is on his own, and he does an excellent job while all kinds of people visit him to buy wood. The sight of the snow-covered Hargita offers a memorable background to the story.
