"In my novels, I put interesting, fun, intense characters in a story built on a scientific premise. My first novel, The God Patent, came out in 2009 and was acquired and re-released by 47North in 2013. My second novel, The Sensory Deception, came out in August-2013.
The God Patent is built on quantum physics and The Sensory Deception is built on the relationship between the senses and the mind.
My books are shelved in science fiction, but my science is accurate, cutting edge, and I work hard to make it accessible and fascinating without taking up so many pages that it slows down the story. I like the kind of novels that make you feel like you’ve been survived something with the characters so that when you put down the book you feel exhilarated, maybe a bit exhausted, but kind of pumped, too.
I’m working on a series, The Timescapers, about three swashbuckling geeks who project future timelines through data mining technology. In the first installment, Utopia, set in 2011 Occupy Wall Street, the timescapers have to rescue the future from anarchist utopians battling corporate libertarian utopians. Plenty of humor in this one, expect it in 2015.
My first nonfiction book comes out in Autumn 2015 from Viva Editions. "The Left Brain Speaks, but the Right Brain Laughs" is an irreverent romp through neuroscience that focuses on the brain mechanisms of creativity, especially as applied to art and science.
My professional background is in particle physics research and technology development. I write for electronics trade magazines, including plenty of popular science—the Higgs boson, emergence, gravity waves, free will, philosophy of science, etc, you can find links to my science articles at http://science.ransomstephens.com.
