Plot:
Based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom.
In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free
black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty
(personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well
as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain

Filmul este inspirat din povestea adevărată a unui bărbat care luptă pentru supravieţuire şi libertate, într-o perioadă în care culoarea pielii stabileşte valoarea umană. Înainte de izbucnirea Războiului Civil din Statele Unite, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), un negru care pune preţ pe libertate, este răpit şi vândut ca sclav. Trecând prin momente de o cruzime insuportabilă, dar şi prin clipe neaşteptate de blândeţe, pentru Solomon nepreţuite rămân viaţa şi demnitatea sa. În cei 12 ani de sclavie, definitorie pentru destinul său va fi doar întâlnirea cu un aboliţionist canadian, interpretat de Brad Pitt.
