Hungary, from 1949 until 1956. Juli is an 18-year old woman who has left home and who gets a scholarship to study film in Moscow. After Stalin's death there is a thaw in Soviet thinking, but this is shattered by the events of 1956. "Diary for My Lovers" is a 1987 Hungarian drama film directed by Márta Mészáros. It was entered into the 37th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear for an outstanding single achievement.
