"Asa mama, asa fiica", afirmau publicatiile de mare tiraj la lansarea actritei in filmul/drama de debut "Party of Five" cu rolul Cory in 1966 (avea numai 13 ani), era plina de talent si candoare. Un copil fraged ce avea sa se transforme in timp intr-o superba femeie (nominalizata in anul 2000 si 2006 ca fiind una dintre cele 50 cele mai frumoase femei din lume, conform People), si o actrita fenomen, plina de talent ce a muncit enorm pentru a-si construi singura drumul in cinematografie, fara a copia, si vesnic dornica de autodepasire.
A fost casatorita cu muzicianul celebru, Leaderul formatiei Hard Rock/Blues band Chris Robinson (2000 - 2007) cu care are un copil Ryder Robinson nascut in 2004, care la randul lui a filmat deja in serialul "VH1: All Access".
In prezent , are o legatura de dragoste cu actorul Owen Wilson ( cunoscut publicului roman din " Meet the Parents " sau " The Haunting "...), face yoga, este buna prietena cu actrita Liv Tyler , a scos si lansat doua discuri de muzica si a fondat alaturi familie o casa de productie.
