Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) este un "mecanic", un asasin de elită cu un cod de onoare strict și cu un talent unic pentru eliminarea țintelor. Este o slujbă care necesită profesionalism desăvârșit și o detașare absolută, iar Bishop e cel mai bun din breaslă. Dar când mentorul și prietenul său apropiat, Harry (Donald Sutherland), este ucis, Bishop își pierde orice urmă de detașare. Următoarea lui misiune e una autoimpusă: vrea să-i vadă morți pe cei responsabili de crimă.
Misiunea lui devine și mai complicată când fiul lui Harry, Steve (Ben Foster), îl abordează având în minte aceeași idee și fiind ferm decis să învețe meserie de la Bishop. Bishop a acționat întotdeauna singur, dar nu-l poate refuza pe fiul lui Harry. Un asasin profesionist foarte metodic își ia un ucenic impulsiv, aruncând-ul în universul său mortal. Dar în timp ce-i urmăresc pe vinovați, înșelăciunile ies la iveală, iar cei angajați să rezolve probleme devin ei înșiși o problemă.
Jason Statham (The Expendables, The Italian Job) și Ben Foster (The Messenger, 3:10 to Yuma) joacă alături de Donald Sutherland (The Italian Job) și de Tony Goldwyn (The Last House on the Left), în filmul Mecanicul / The Mechanic produs de CBS Films în asociere cu Millennium Films.
Producătorii sunt Chartoff Winkler Production și Nu Image Production, Simon West (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Con Air) este regizorul, iar scenariul e semnat de Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) și de Lewis John Carlino (cel care a scris scenarul original al filmului Mecanicul, film produs în 1972).
Filmul e produs de David Winkler, Bill Chartoff și de Rene Besson. Irwin Winkler și Robert Chartoff sunt producători executivi, împreună cu Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short și Boaz Davidson.
