"Hereafter" relateaza povestile paralele a trei oameni, care se confrunta in moduri diferite cu ideile de moarte si viata de apoi. George este un muncitor nord-american din San Francisco, care dispune de capacitatea paranormala de a comunica cu spiritele celor decedati, dar refuza sa se foloseasca de acest har si sa isi deschida o afacere ca medium impreuna cu fratele lui pentru ca isi doreste o existenta obisnuita si o femeie care sa il iubeasca. Marie este o celebra jurnalista franceza, care supravietuieste in mod miraculos unui tsunami si are viziuni despre viata de dupa moarte, motiv pentru care decide sa scrie o carte despre experienta la limita pe care a indurat-o. Marcus este un elev din Londra, care are un frate geaman pe nume Jason si o mama dependenta de droguri, care ii creste singura pe amandoi. Dupa ce Jason este ucis intr-un accident de masina, Marcus cauta cu disperare raspunsuri si un medium cu ajutorul caruia sa intre in legatura cu spiritul fratelui decedat.
