How to change Date-Time Format at top right of screen
Date-Time Format Strings specify the formatting of date-time values (such as TDateTime) when they are converted to strings. Date-Time Format Strings are passed to formatting routines (such as FormatDateTime), and are also used to set certain global variables (such as ShortDateFormat). Date Time Format Strings are composed from specifiers that represent values to be inserted into the formatted string. Some specifiers (such as "d" , simply format numbers or strings. Other specifiers (such as "/" refer to locale-specific strings from global variables. In the following table, specifiers are given in lower case. Case is ignored in formats, except for the "am/pm" and "a/p" specifiers.
Specifier Displays
* c - Displays the date using the format given by the ShortDateFormat global variable, followed by the time using the format given by the LongTimeFormat global variable. The time is not displayed if the date-time value indicates midnight precisely. * d - Displays the day as a number without a leading zero (1-31). * dd - Displays the day as a number with a leading zero (01-31). * ddd - Displays the day as an abbreviation (Sun-Sat) using the strings given by the ShortDayNames global variable. * dddd - Displays the day as a full name (Sunday-Saturday) using the strings given by the LongDayNames global variable. * ddddd - Displays the date using the format given by the ShortDateFormat global variable. * dddddd - Displays the date using the format given by the LongDateFormat global variable. * e (Windows only) - Displays the year in the current period/era as a number without a leading zero (Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese locales only). * ee (Windows only) - Displays the year in the current period/era as a number with a leading zero (Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese locales only). * g (Windows only) - Displays the period/era as an abbreviation (Japanese and Taiwanese locales only). * gg (Windows only) - Displays the period/era as a full name. (Japanese and Taiwanese locales only). * m - Displays the month as a number without a leading zero (1-12). If the m specifier immediately follows an h or hh specifier, the minute rather than the month is displayed. * mm - Displays the month as a number with a leading zero (01-12). If the mm specifier immediately follows an h or hh specifier, the minute rather than the month is displayed. * mmm - Displays the month as an abbreviation (Jan-Dec) using the strings given by the ShortMonthNames global variable. * mmmm Displays the month as a full name (January-December) using the strings given by the LongMonthNames global variable. * yy - Displays the year as a two-digit number (00-99). * yyyy - Displays the year as a four-digit number (0000-9999). * h - Displays the hour without a leading zero (0-23). * hh - Displays the hour with a leading zero (00-23). * n - Displays the minute without a leading zero (0-59). * nn - Displays the minute with a leading zero (00-59). * s - Displays the second without a leading zero (0-59). * ss - Displays the second with a leading zero (00-59). * z - Displays the millisecond without a leading zero (0-999). * zzz - Displays the millisecond with a leading zero (000-999). * t - Displays the time using the format given by the hortTimeFormat global variable. * tt - Displays the time using the format given by the LongTimeFormat global variable. * am/pm - Uses the 12-hour clock for the preceding h or hh specifier, and displays 'am' for any hour before noon, and 'pm' for any hour after noon. The am/pm specifier can use lower, upper, or mixed case, and the result is displayed accordingly. * a/p - Uses the 12-hour clock for the preceding h or hh specifier, and displays 'a' for any hour before noon, and 'p' for any hour after noon. The a/p specifier can use lower, upper, or mixed case, and the result is displayed accordingly. * ampm - Uses the 12-hour clock for the preceding h or hh specifier, and displays the contents of the TimeAMString global variable for any hour before noon, and the contents of the TimePMString global variable for any hour after noon. * / - Displays the date separator character given by the DateSeparator global variable. * : - Displays the time separator character given by the TimeSeparator global variable. * 'xx'/"xx" - Characters enclosed in single or double quotes are displayed as-is, and do not affect formatting.

What is DxVA?
Microsoft DirectX Video Acceleration (DirectX VA).
DxVA technology allows DirectShow based decoders to accelerate video playback directly on the graphics processors(GPU) instead of the main CPU, thus reducing the CPU usage. DirectX Video Acceleration permits one or more stages of the video decoding process to be divided between the host CPU and the video hardware accelerator(GPU). The accelerator on GPU executes the motion-compensated prediction(MCP), and may also execute the inverse discrete-cosine transform(IDCT) and the variable-length decoding(VLD) stages of the decoding process. These modes execution depends on the type of Chipset or VGA card implementation.
Prior to DXVA, each display adapter company had their own unique and proprietary interface for accessing these hardware capabilities to the decoder. By the way, If your graphics processor supports DxVA and has built-in technology to accelerate video playback, then DxVA can provide hardware acceleration on GPU.
DxVA is an application programming interface(API) and a corresponding motion compensation device driver interface(DDI) for acceleration of digital video decoding. DDIs are also provided as part of DxVA; a deinterlacing DDI for deinterlacing and frame-rate conversion of video content, and to support ProcAmp DDI control and postprocessing of video content. DxVA provides an interface definition that is foremost focused on support of MPEG-2 "main profile" video(formally ITU-T H.262 | ISO/IEC 13818-2), but is also intended to support other key video codecs, like example; H.261, and MPEG-1, H.263(MPEG-4 ASP), and H.264(MPEG-4 AVC).
A good exampel of the benifits of using DxVA for video acceleration is that you could decode HDTV (720p/1080i) MPEG-4 with a PIII 1400Mhz CPU(possible even less), a task that would normaly require a P4 2,400Mhz CPU if the card does not support DxVA HWMC.

How to jump to the exact time interval? (What is Keyframe Search?)
set the jump intervals (rewind using left arrow key) to 1 and to 2 seconds and more
Keyframe
In video compression, a key frame is a frame encoded without reference to any images in another frame, meaning it contains the entire image as it appears on that frame. In this context, it is also often referred to as an intra frame or I-frame. It is often followed by one or more inter frames which are calculated from the preceding key frame.
In non-linear digital video editing as well as in video compositing software, a key frame is a frame used to indicate the beginning or end of a change made to the signal. For instance, a key frame could be set to indicate the point at which audio will have faded up or down to a certain level.
Simply speaking, Keyframe is a complete frame but heavily compressed. Keyframe search changes a position of playing very fast but it is not possible to seek to the exact time interval. The reason of fast seeking with keyframe search is that additional decoding procedure is not required to access the keyframes. When enabled, the keyframe search will find the adjacent keyframe from the current position.
Frame:
The basic source of a movie. One frame represents one image. A movie usually runs at 24 frames per seconds, so it has 24 different images per second. Imagine 24 images with a bird on it, in the first image it's on the left, then it gradually movies somewhat to the right. On the 24th frame the bird is on the right end of the image. Imagine these 24 images being played in sequence fast enough and it looks like a bird would fly from left to right to the human eye.
Delta frame In interframe coding, a frame that provides an incremental change from the key frame.
Interframe coding
In video compression, the coding of the differences between frames. Interframe coding often provides substantial compression because in many motion sequences, only a small percentage of the pixels are actually different from one frame to another. However, it depends entirely on the content. A room full of people dancing will not compress as well as a person sitting in a chair talking.
With interframe coding, a video sequence is made up of keyframes that contain the entire image. In between the keyframes are delta frames, which are encoded with only the incremental differences. Depending on the compression method, a new keyframe is generated based on a set number of frames or when a certain percentage of pixels in the material has changed. See intraframe coding.

What's the difference of switching subtitle languages between Ctrl+L and Shift+L?,
When there are external subtitles with embedded ones, Shift+L can switch among them while Ctrl+L can't.
In the very beginning of the player, SMI was the only one subtitle format supported by KMP. The SMI subtitle standard allows for multiple languages of the subtitle to exist in one file. The identifier of language of SMI subtitles is defined as a language class. If one SMI subtitle had more than one language classe, Ctrl+L did the switching job between the classes. Switching among the multiple subtitle files was not considered in the early version of KMP.
And that's the reason why there is another switching method unlike the original one. Before adding Shift+L function, to switch among multiple subtitle files, it was firstly required to merge them as one subtitle file on the fly giving each external subtitle file to a temporary language class in order to switch them using Ctrl+L. That's what it explains in the description of the screenshot above though it is rather useless now: you don't need to enable the above option to switch among subtitle files any more. However Ctrl+L switching is still required for domestic environment as SMI is the only one subtitle format dominating in my nation, Korea.
So the each function names like this.
Ctrl+L: Switch to Next Language Class Shift+L: Switch to Next Subtitle File

Audio Capture (Alt+A) To capture (encode) an audio stream in any video container, KMP Audio Transform Filter is necessary in filter chain. Filter chain means filter lists while playing the media file. You can confirm the filter on right clicking of KMP | Filters menu, in Advanced Playback Info Box (Ctrl+Tab) or Advanced Filter Setup Box (Ctrl+`) while playing any media file. Superspeed mode (Alt+F) disables KMP Audio and Video Transform Filter. Therefore, Audio Capture is not possible in Superspeed mode. On the other hand, Highspeed mode (Ctrl+Alt+F) only disables KMP Video Transform Filter.
The following is a typical filter chain when playback started.
[Primary Filtergraph] 0) - example.avi 1) - AVI Splitter 2) - MPEG Layer-3 Decoder 3) - KMP Video Codec 4) - KMP Video Transform 5) - KMP Audio Transform(Inpalce) 6) - Video Mixing Renderer9(Renderless) 7) - Default DirectSound Device
What's the role of KMP Video Transform Filter? What does it do? All kinds of video processing from basic to advanced are processed within KMP Video Transform Filter (see Preferences | Video Processing). KMP do many more things in KMP Video Transform Filter like this: On Screen Control (Overlay type), Menu Overlay (Ctrl+J), On Screen Display (Tab, Scroll Lock), visualizations, subtitle processing (Image type, Alt+M) etc.
Video Capture (Alt+C) - Target: It is only for making a small videoclip while playing a movie file in your local hard disk. It is not considered to use the function for other purposes such as video converter, DVD ripper, stream ripper, and etc.
- Method: There is one thing to remember before using the feature; video capture is a real-time process. You should have a system enough to process both capturing (encoding) and playing simultaneously.
To properly capture a video, KMP Audio/Video Transform Filter should be present in playing filter chain. By the way, there is one exception to capture a video without KMP Audio/Video Transform Filter; it is possible to copy an audio/video stream directly without encoding if internal decoders are used. It's even possible to directly copy the a/v stream of wmv when it is wrapped as an internal decoder in preferences.
For example, you can capture a video of WMV in Superspeed mode with WMV7/8/9 audio and video decoder enabled in Preferences | Internal Audio/Video Decoder. In this case, the actual WMV/WMA decoder is still an external DMO decoder of the system but it works as if it were an internal decoder.
Copy stream mode in Video Capture is actually a kind of remuxing process. To copy a/v streams is naturally much more efficient than to encode the streams but it requires some strict conditions. It doesn't always work well. You should have some background knowledge of encoding to use this function without having too much trouble. That is, there could be various a/v desync problems with the video-clips captured by KMP. It depends on the container, Codec and frame rate etc used in source media file. In this case, it would be better to use more professional capture tool especially designed for that purpose only.
Video capture is mainly for a file having the extension of avi. As the way of capture in KMP does not rely on VFW structure (frame by frame) which is more suitable for video editing or encoding, if there is a problem while capturing, it's hard to correct the desync between audio and video streams. You can try fixing it by selecting one of the following options: - Encode video stream - Encode audio stream

How to configure to select a preferred audio/subtitle stream?
The KMPlayer has the capability of automatically selecting the specified audio and subtitle streams of media files in preferences. You can specify a few initial characters of preferred languages appearing in the each stream switcher of audio and subtitle. It is also possible to specify a stream number to select automatically while starting playback.
You can specify the preferred languages sequentially signaling the priority of languages by separating each text string with "space (blank character)". KMP tries to find the matches in order and the first match will be selected as a preferred (audio/subtitle) language on play start.
Refer to the screenshot below.
ps. If there are external subtitles, the embedded subtitles (of MKV/MP4/OGM) will be overrided by default. Thus the specified settings of preferred languages will be only applied to the external subtitles.
e.g. Let's assume that there are embedded subtitles of "jpn.ssa, eng.ssa" in Sample.mkv and the preferred subtitle languages are specified as "jpn eng fre" in preferences; The selected subtitle would be "Sample.jpn.srt". Sample.mkv Sample.eng.srt Sample.jpn.srt
KMP only recognizes the subtitle having the same filename as a movie file to play if the subtitles are not located in the same folder as the video.
If you want to load two subtitles in order as defined in "preferred subtitle language", all subtitles must have language tags between the subtitle's filename and extension. If there is a subtitle having the same name as a movie file, KMP will load it unconditionally.
It's because of SMI subtitles. SMI subtitles have a language class defined in the header of subtitle in order to make it possible to have multiple languages within one SMI subtitle.
How to automatically load 2nd subtitle? Refer to the screenshot below. The attributes of the second subtitle such as font style, position and charset etc can be adjusted in each second tab in preferences / Subtitle Processing / Font Style and Alignment. If you have a trouble in displaying 2nd subtitle, there is an easy way to avoid the cracking characters. Save the subtitle as unicode and load it in KMP. Of course, you can simply change the charset of 2nd subtitle manually in preferences / subtitle processing / font style / 2nd subtitle tab / Charset.
The term "Integrated Subtitle" and "Language Class" used in the preferences of KMP means the structure of SMI which defines multiple languages as language classes within one smi subtitle file.
How to position 2nd subtitle?
There are two ways.
1. Enable or load 2nd subtitle. And adjust the position of 2nd subtitle manually. It is upside down by default.
2. Process both subtitles as integrated subtitle. Carefully read the explanation described in preferences.
When subtitles are processed in this way, there is a restriction to change the attributes of 2nd subtitle.
ETC The option of 2nd screenshot below works only when subtitles are drawn to overlay/vmr surfaces.
To draw subtitles on overlay surface, Overlay Mixer must be used as a video renderer and the output method of subtitles must be selected to "draw to overlay surface" (Alt+R).
Similarly, to draw subtitles on VMR surface, VMR9 Renderless must be used as a video renderer and the output method of subtitles must be selected to "draw to VMR surface". (Alt+V)
Video renderers can be selected in preferences / video processing / renderer tab. Subtitle's output methods can be selected in preferences / subtitle processing or you can use the following hotkeys. By default, KMP draws subtitles on image itself which requires KMP video transform filter. The rest two methods do not require KMP video transform filter.
Alt+R: Draw to Overlay Surface Alt+M: Draw to Image Itself (default) - Theater mode Alt+V: Draw to VMR Surface - Clone mode
The default setting of drawing subtitle is for TV-OUT (Theater mode). The term of Theater and Clone comes from ATI control panel (See 3rd screenshot below). On ATI graphic cards, there was an option called "theater mode" for TV-OUT, which caused any video overlay being played on the primary monitor to display in fullscreen on the second monitor (TV). If you want to force the subtitles to display at bottom of screen in Theater mode, KMP video transform filter is required to make a room for subtitles. There are two ways to achieve the purpose. The first method is actually a part of the second.
1. F3: Make a bottom margin for subtitle (Right click on KMP / Subtitles / Bottom Margin) 2. Ctrl+Q: Screen Offset (Right clikc on KMP / Pan & Scan)
The F3 function still works without KMP video transform filter but it does not add physical pixels to video image. For more information, there is an explanation in the dialog of screen offset (Ctrl+Q).

How to disable internal decoders?
You don't need to disable each items of internal video/audio decoders in preferences if you would not like to use internal decoders. It's very simple to avoid using internal decoders. Refer to the screenshot.
BTW, it is not strongly recommended.
You can disable KMP video/audio transform filters using superspeed mode (alt+f).
Actually, there is no reason to use KMP if you disable internal A/V decoders and A/V transform filters.

How to use Haali's splitter with The KMPlayer?
KMP splitters are good enough to use in most cases. If you wish to use haali's splitter, there is something careful to do while installing. Haali's splitter is rather similar to nero splitters as it is actually source filter integrated with splitter. These kind of splitters intercept and force to open the media with its own splitter causing various problems depending on the support coverage. In short, it is hard to control the source filter with integrated splitter (nero, haali). Some of them do not allow 3rd party's decoder to be connected (nero, nvidia's ts demuxer etc).
If you want to use haali's splitter without problems, follow the steps. (As I said, it is not a required procedure as KMP has its own splitters. It is for those who are not satisfied with KMP's splitter.)
1. Uncheck all items while installing haali's splitter. It will make the priority of haali's splitter lower. (1st screenshot)
2. Enable the items to be supported from haali's splitter. (2nd screenshot)
ps. If you have haali's splitter in your system, uninstall it first.

How to use, Auto Select Aspect Ratio? and detailed info about AR.
How does it work, "Auto Select Aspect Ratio" and detailed info about aspect ratio.
The term, Source Aspect Ratio making many peoples confusing, is changed to Storage Aspect Ratio. It is not so intuitive word explaining what it really means, but there seems to be no good alternative other than this.
Aspect ratio refers generally to the ratio between the width and height of an object.
* Source Aspect Ratio (SAR) = Storage Aspect Ratio (SAR) = H.Res / V.Res , the relative number of pixels in each dimension as stored in the file. * Display Aspect Ratio (DAR) = Picture Aspect Ratio (PAR), the relative dimensions of the video as display on-screen. * Pixel(Pel) Aspect Ratio (PAR) = Sample Aspect Ratio (SAR), the relative dimensions of individual pixels.
There are two types of aspect ratios involved in The KMPlayer. One is Storage Aspect Ratio (SAR) meaning the pixel frame size of a video file, before any form of AR correction has been applied. The other one is Display Aspect Ratio (DAR). This is the ratio most commonly referred to by the term "aspect ratio", and is the ratio of the video frame's physical (displayed) width to its height, regardless of the number of pixels used to represent the video image.
As for the detailed infomation of Pixel Aspect Ratio, visit the following link.
How does it work, "Auto Select Aspect Ratio"?
The adjacent ratio will be selected among the standard aspect ratios defined in KMP (4:3 TV, 16:9 HDTV, 1.85:1 WideScreen, 2.35:1 CinemaScope) after deciding the aspect ratio to use (SAR < DAR) when starting the playback of video. The procedure of selecting AR automatically is the operation supposing that all video materials were encoded in the standard aspect ratio. In most cases, as most video encodings do not violate such a standard ratio, AR correction will be applied on the assumption of bad encoding if a ratio is not matched to one of the defined standards.
The priority of selecting aspect ratio is as follows: SAR < DAR < Auto AR. These kind of information is accessible by pressing "TAB" with video playback starting.
The option of outputting as SAR (Storage Aspect Ratio) is originally designed for the bad xvid encodings containing the wrong AR information in its bitstream. Do not select the option if you do not encounter the situation described above.

here is a method how you can rip single Audio-CD tracks with KMP:
*****
1. Open the CD track you want to rip and let it start playing for some seconds.
2. Click on "Pause." (This is important. Ripping while playing is not possible; it may CRASH the PC; at least, it did so for me.)
3. Select "Capture / Save as." KMP saves the .CDA file as a .WAV file to the harddisk.
4. If you want to, use "SUPER(C)" (link in my "Useful-Tools-and-Tips" Thread) or another free program to convert .WAV to .MP3, or use the KMP Capture options to save .WAV as .MP3. (Strangely enough, "SUPER(C)" does not accept .CDA as input format, so it cannot convert .CDA to .MP3 directly.)
*****
For a more comfortable ripping of a whole CD, I suggest you use a special converter software, but the method described above is a good solution if you want to rip only two or three tracks, and you have no ripping software at hand.
*
Some CDs are copy-protected and difficult or even impossible to rip. There are also special ripping programs for that, but they are not officially legal in all countries.
Some CDs are so well-protected that they don't even play on a PC or if the drive of the CD player / car radio is a computer drive. In such cases you can give the CD back and get your money back. Copy-protected CDs and DVDs must be labeled as protected (at least in the EU).
But it seems that .MP3 downloads are more and more replacing the CDs. The advantages:
1. You can install the files on a small, light MP3 player and don't need to carry a heavy CD player and big CDs with you.
2. You get only the songs you really want, so you no longer need to buy a whole CD for getting only two or three songs from it.

This manual is for beginners and should explain the work with The KMPlayer in simple steps.
The installation and first configuration has been left behind, as it is just following the steps on the screen. It's also expected that you selected your language. If not Right click > Language.
Open files
Let's say that the association of file types has been successful. On default you can open a file with double click onto the associated file. It doesn't matter if the KMPlayer is open or not. The playback should start immediately.
You can also use the right click menu: Right click > Open files
CTRL+O opens the dialog, too.
Open URL
CTRL+U opens a dialog where you can choose a predefined streaming URL or type an own.
Right click > Open > Open URL does also work.
http:// and mms:// are supported but ftp:// not.
Close file
Right click > Close file
It's equal to stop playback
Open / Load a playlist
Opening a playlist is the same as opening a file.
Open playlist editor
ALT+E opens and closes the playlist editor. You see the default playlist that maybe contains a single file or is just empty. Every time you open a file it's loaded into the default playlist. So you should create a new playlist/album.
Create a playlist / Add files to playlist (default skin)
Click on the icon that looks like a box or folder. Select “new”. Give your playlist/album an name like “custom” or whatever you want to call it. Keep the box “Export” checked if you want to save your playlist/album. Select where to save it. Default folder is recommended. Note that this file is saved as .kpl. You can rename/copy and delete by clicking the box, too.
Now you successfully created a playlist, but it's empty so lets fill it with some files.
Click the “+” button to add files, folders and existing playlists. The “-” button removes selected entries.
Keep playlist clean
In the previous step you created a playlist/album and filled it with entries. Now you need to keep it clean.
You can move your entries with the mouse or with CTRL+UP / CTRL+DOWN.
Right click in editor > Manage playlist entries > Remove played entries Removes entries that have been played.
Right click in editor > Remove dead entries does what it sounds like. It removes every file that has been deleted or moved.
If you know that you have moved a file you can select “Replace item with file” (Right click > Manage playlist entries) and navigate to the folder you moved it to and choose the file as entry. Useful before you use “Remove dead entries”.
Start and stop playback / Play file (from playlist)
If you double click on an entry it will be played. You can right click on an entry and select “Play”. Playback starts also if you press the triangle button that points right or if you use the spacebar. Note that the spacebar also pauses and continues.
Clicking the square button stops playback. CTRL+Z stops the playback, too. Resize window and video
Now that you are able to open and play a file you should know how to resize the window and the video. This also works with audio files and visualization.
Just move the mouse to the edge of the window until an arrow cursor appears. Hold the left mouse button down and drag it around.
Minimizing and restoring the player
Clicking the button at the top right of the main window that looks like an “-” minimizes the player. Normally it's minimized to tray. Left clicking on it once will make it appear again.
Accessing the preferences
The easiest way to access the preferences is pressing F2. Another way is Right click > Options > Preferences
Stop going to system tray
Go the the preferences (F2) and choose the “General” entry. Navigate to the “General” tab and find the entry “minimize to system tray”. Uncheck it and the KMPlayer will minimize to task bar.
Change skin
This can be done by selecting it via menu. Right click > Skins
You can also double click on an associated .ksf file.
Close the KMPlayer
ALT+F4 closes the player. Clicking the “X” on the main window closes the player, too.
Right click > EXIT
Advanced configuration of The KMPlayer
The player is already pre-configured but you can change settings in preferences. There is no best setting that fits everyone's taste. You have to find out what's the best for you.
The advanced English manual could help you to find YOUR configuration. You can download it in the forum. The forum is also helpful in this case.
If you did something wrong you can reset settings by clicking on “Reset current preset”.

Cum iti faci "backup" la setarile Kmp daca-ti instalezi alta versiune
1. F2(preferinţe) - generale - bifeaza stocheaza setarile in KMPCfg.ini. Inchide KMP după aceea. Salvaţi KMPCfg.ini într-un alt dosar
* setarile si le face fiecare dupa preferinte * dupa instalare copiati fisierul KMPCfg.ini(contine setarile) in folderul unde s-a instalat programul
2. mai este o varianta : preferinte - exporta presetarile se salveaza ca .reg apoi dati dublu click pe fisierul .reg (la mine a functionat prima metoda)
> tastele personalizate sunt stocate în fişierul KMPKey.ini.
