Overview
Grand Theft Auto is a game created by Scottish company, DMA Design (now Rockstar North) and published by ASC Games in 1997/1998. The game allows the player to take on the role of a criminal who can roam freely around a city. Various missions are set for completion, such as bank robberies, assassinations, and other crimes. It is the first in the Grand Theft Auto series that has thus far spanned nine standalone games, and two expansion packs. GTA was succeeded by Grand Theft Auto 2 and both games were made available for free download by Rockstar Games on their website in 2004.

Grand Theft Auto is made up of a series of levels each set in one of the three cities in the game. In each level, the player has a target number of points to achieve, and five lives to attain the score. The player is free to do whatever he wants. The player can gain points by causing death and destruction amid the traffic in the city, or steal and sell cars for profit, although to get to the large target money amount to complete a level, players will usually opt to complete missions. Even during missions there is still some freedom as most of the time the player is free to choose the route to take, but the destination is usually fixed. It is this level of freedom which set GTA apart from other action based computer games at the time. The PC releases of the game allowed networked multiplayer gameplay using the IPX protocol.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #1: London, 1969 is a mission pack for Grand Theft Auto. GTA: London was released on March 31, 1999 for DOS, Microsoft Windows. The game uses the same game engine as Grand Theft Auto, thus giving the game graphics reminiscent of the aforementioned game, and the gameplay and game mechanics are also very much like those found in GTA. Like GTA the mission pack is divided into sub-sections with short cutscenes in between.

Instead of fictional locations based on real-life cities as featured in the original Grand Theft Auto (Liberty City, San Andreas, and Vice City), the game takes place in London, in 1969, as the title implies. The player once again enters the role of a criminal looking to work his way up the career ladder of organized crime.

Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #2: London, 1961 is a freely distributed mission pack, or expansion pack, to Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #1: London, 1969.

Like GTA: London, 1969, it uses the same game engine as Grand Theft Auto. As the name implies, the game takes place in London in the year 1961, eight years before the events that took place in GTA: London, 1969. The expansion includes new missions, 22 new vehicles, a new cutscene, and a new multiplayer deathmatch map based upon Manchester. The 1961 setting makes this mission pack the earliest GTA game chronologically.

Unlike GTA: London, 1969, this game is only available for PC, as it is downloadable freeware. At just 7MB, GTA: London, 1961 requires GTA: London, 1969 which, in turn, requires Grand Theft Auto. GTA: London, 1961 seems to be the least known chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series, most likely due to its inconspicuous download location and dependence on word of mouth. It can also only be played with the original GTA London, 1969 disc; it does not work with the version included in the Grand Theft Auto: The Classics Collection pack.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto 2 is a game that was released worldwide on October 22, 1999, by developer DMA Design (now Rockstar North); initially for the Windows operating system and the PlayStation. The game was later ported to the Dreamcast console and the Game Boy Color. It is the sequel to the controversial 1997 hit Grand Theft Auto. The PC and Dreamcast versions of GTA2 are both rated M by the ESRB. The language and violence was toned down for the PlayStation and Game Boy Color versions which received a T rating. Rockstar now offers the PC version as registerware for free download at their website. GTA2 was preceded by the original Grand Theft Auto and succeeded by Grand Theft Auto III.

GTA2 retained the top-down viewpoint of GTA, as well as the car-stealing/telephone-answering formula of the original. The player has the ability to explore cities on foot or in various vehicles. The aim is to achieve a certain score. On achieving this goal the player then can proceed to the next level. Doing missions awards the player more points than any other method but are not essential for completion of the game.

A new feature introduced in GTA2 was doing missions for separate gangs, of which there are two new gangs for each of the three levels of the game, and one faction which is present in all levels. Being employed by one gang can cause distrust from others (working for gang #1 will incur the wrath of gang #2, working for gang #2 will cause enmity with gang #3, etcetera). In the original GTA, only the local police pursued the player. In GTA2, SWAT teams, as well Special Agents and the army, begin chasing the player as his or her wanted level increases. The wanted level is represented by images of a cop's head.

GTA2 also included a saving technique that improved upon that of the original GTA, which saved only when finishing a city. If the player entered a church with $50,000, a voice announced "Hallelujah! Another soul saved!". This notified the player that the game had been saved. If the player did not have enough money, the voice would say "Damnation! No donation, no salvation!" The "safe house" feature would become standard and expanded upon in later GTA games, although saving would become free of cost.

Other minor improvements pertain to city activity. Passing vehicles and pedestrians are no longer cosmetic parts of the environment, but actually play a more significant role in gameplay. Sometimes pedestrians would occasionally enter and ride in taxis. The game is also noted for the emergent behavior of its non-player characters. Pedestrians, gang members and the police would occasionally engage in fights, and there are even other carjackers (Green sweater) and muggers (Red sweater) in the city.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto III is a sandbox-style action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the first 3D title in the Grand Theft Auto series and the third original title overall. It was released in October 2001 for the PlayStation 2 video game console, May 2002 for Windows-based personal computers, and in November 2003 for the Xbox video game console. The game was preceded by Grand Theft Auto 2 and succeeded by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

The game centers on a nameless criminal who was betrayed by his girlfriend in a bank heist, and is required to work his way up the crime ladder of the city before confronting her. Like its predecessors, GTA III implements sandbox-like gameplay, where the player is given the freedom to explore a large city, complete missions, commit criminal acts, or complete side missions.

The game's concept and gameplay, coupled with the use of a three dimensional game engine for the first time in the series, contributed to Grand Theft Auto III's positive reception upon its release; it quickly became 2001's top selling video game and is cited as a landmark in video games for its far-reaching influence within the industry. GTA III's success was a significant factor in the series' subsequent pority; as of 2008, five GTA prequels set before events in GTA III have been released. GTA III's violent and sexual content has also been the source of moral panic and controversy.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is a sandbox-style action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the second 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise and fourth original title overall. It debuted in North America on October 27, 2002, for the PlayStation 2 and quickly became the best-selling video game for that year. Following this success, Vice City saw releases in Europe, Australia and Japan, and became available on the PC. Vice City was succeeded by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and preceded by Grand Theft Auto III.

Vice City draws much of its inspiration from 1980s American culture. Set in 1986, the story revolves around Mafia member Tommy Vercetti, who was recently released from prison. After being involved in a drug deal gone wrong, Tommy is forced to seek out those responsible. Throughout the game, Tommy forges out a criminal empire in Vice City, gradually obtaining contacts, running businesses and seizing power from the other criminal organizations present in the city.

The game uses a tweaked version of the game engine used in Grand Theft Auto III and similarly presents a huge cityscape, fully poted with buildings (from hotels to skyscrapers), vehicles (cars, motorcycles, boats, helicopters) and people to explore.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a sandbox-style action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the third 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise and fifth original game overall. Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2004, the game has since been ported to the Xbox and Microsoft Windows, and has received wide acclaim and high sales figures on all three platforms. San Andreas was preceded by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and is succeeded by Grand Theft Auto IV.

Set in late 1992, the game revolves around the main character, Carl "CJ" Johnson returning home from Liberty City to Los Santos after learning of his mother's murder. CJ finds his family and his old gang, the Grove Street Families, in disarray. Over the course of the game, CJ gradually unravels the plot behind his mother's murder while reestablishing his gang and exploring his own business ventures.

Much like the previous entries in the Grand Theft Auto series, San Andreas's critical and commercial success has not been without controversy. The most notable controversy was over the explicit "Hot Coffee" sex minigame, which was disabled but left within the game's code. Its discovery led San Andreas to be re-rated briefly as an adult game and pulled from retailers' shelves.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto IV is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North. It is the ninth title in the Grand Theft Auto series and the first in its fourth generation. The game was immediately preceded by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Grand Theft Auto IV was released in Australia, Europe and North America on 29 April 2008 for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar announced a Windows version of the game for release in North America on 2 December 2008.

The game is set in a redesigned rendition of Liberty City, a fictional city based heavily on modern day New York City. It follows Niko Bellic, a war veteran from Eastern Europe, who comes to the United States in search of the American Dream, but quickly becomes entangled in a seedy underworld of gangs, crime, and corruption. Like other games in the series, GTA IV is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and features "open-world" gameplay that gives players more control over their playing experience. GTA IV is the first console game in the series to feature an online multiplayer mode, which contains fifteen different game types.

A major commercial and critical success, Grand Theft Auto IV broke industry records with sales of around 3.6 million units on its first day of release and grossing more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, from an estimated 6 million units sold worldwide. As of 16 August 2008, the game has sold over 10 million copies. Grand Theft Auto IV received overwhelmingly positive reviews, becoming one of the highest-rated games of all-time on the aggregated review website MobyGames.

Overview
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City is a standalone compilation of the DLC episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV, containing both The Lost and Damned  and The Ballad of Gay Tony  on one disc. It was released alongside the DLC release of The Ballad of Gay Tony on 29 October 2009 for the Xbox 360 and released on 13 April 2010 for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3. It does not require a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV to play, nor is an Xbox Live or PSN account necessary (except for multiplayer). The content is also played straight from the disc, and doesn't need to be downloaded to a hard drive to play, like various other disc-based expansions for other Xbox 360 games that have been released in the past.

Available exclusively on the Episodes from Liberty City disc are three new radio stations - Vice City FM, RamJam FM and Self-Actualization FM.

DLCs Included

The Lost and Damned
The Lost and Damned otherwise features similar gameplay to Grand Theft Auto IV. Additions to the game include new weapons, such as a grenade launcher, Automatic Pistol, half of a pool cue and pipe bombs, as well as sawn-off and automatic shotguns and new vehicles, such as Johnny's custom-made motorcycle. However, his way of handling vehicles is less proficient than the way he handles any motorcycle. The player is able to telephone various members of the Lost to provide assistance. Terry, for instance, will drive to a location near to Johnny and sell him weapons and armour, while Clay can deliver a bike of the player's choice to a nearby area. Another addition to The Lost and Damned is gang wars. Once the player has completed a certain amount of them, weapons spawn in either the clubhouse and/or safehouse depending on how far the player has progressed in the story, and every subsequent 10 gang wars up to 50, a new weapon will spawn.

The Ballad of Gay Tony
The Ballad of Gay Tony follows the exploits of a new protagonist, Luis Fernando Lopez, an associate of a Dominican street gang and the personal bodyguard of Anthony "Gay Tony" Prince. Rockstar Games claim in their press release that this episode "injects Liberty City with an overdose of guns, glitz, and grime" and that "players will struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price."
