Trains have played a significant role in wars, serving as conveyances for moving troops, munitions, and supplies; rolling hospitals to care for and carry the wounded from battle; artillery stations; and strategic bases. This three-volume set chronicles their service to America, starting with the Civil War, and including World Wars I and II, Korea, and Vietnam. Archival film footage, photographs, personal accounts, and scholarly commentary tell the story of global railroad action. This first volume in the three-part series examines the strategies that were used to use the power of trains to advantage during conflicts. The viewer can observe the process, from the building of the war trains to some spectacular battle scenes.
