Mark Billison este un barbat lipsit de succes, trecut de 40 de ani, cu un aspect fizic neatragator, cu o inteligenta medie si fara prea multe sperante intr-un viitor mai bun pana in momentul in care isi descopera abilitatea de a minti si incepe sa foloseasca acest "talent" in beneficiul sau personal.
El incearca sa seduca o femeie pe care o admira si devenine cel mai inzestrat povestitor din lume dupa ce invata sa infrumuseteze faptele si sa pretinda cu tupeu ca a gasit intamplari istorice demult pierdute.
Astfel, existenta cenusie a acestui ratat simpatic se schimba radical, iar consecintele descoperirii afirmatiilor intentionat false sunt hilare.
