The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987):
As George Jetson tries to prove that he is not leaking secret Spacely Sprockets information to competitor Cogswell Coggs, stone age Fred and Barney make plans to double their vacation fund in a high stakes poker game. Forced to work late the night of the poker game, Fred and Barney try to find a way to sneak into the game past Mr. Slate and end up fired --- which means the wives' lovely extravagant vacation gets turns into a camping trip.
George discovers that the leak is his own lovestruck computer RUDI, but before he gets a chance to tell his boss, the Jetson family finds themselves zapped back to the stone age (in a time machine built by George's son Elroy) --- where they come face to face with the prehistoric Flintstones and Rubbles. Trapped in the past until their time machine if fixed, the Jetsons are graciously put up by the Flintstones. Fred though has secret plans to get his job back by using Elroy's expandable tool bag from the future to win the annual carnival for Mr. Slate, who always loses to Turk Tarpit. As usual, things don't go as planned. The picnic is also the scene of Judi Jetson's latest romance with rock singer Iggy.
Meanwhile, Henry the maintenance man and Rosie (the Jetson's robot housekeeper) use Elroy's time machine retriever to bring the family back, but inadvertently bring Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty by mistake --- trapping the Jetsons with no way to get home. Once Mr. Spacely finds out that the Flintstones are from the past, he decides to use them as a marketing tool, just as Mr. Slate and Turk Tarpit start to market the flying (with anti-gravity boots) George Jetson. Unfortunately, despite all the fortune and George being made partner in Slate and Gravel, the Jetsons are finding themselves missing home and prehistoric life difficult to handle. Fred is made the spokesman for Spacely Sprockets, while its competitor Cogswell Coggs snatches up prehistoric Barney to beat Spacely to the punch --- driving a rift between the Flintstones and Rubbles.
After Rosie has Henry and a reformed RUDI help her fix the time machine, she heads to the past to retrieve her family and returns with the Jetsons and the Flintstones' car --- which Mr. Spacely and George remake and market to save Spacely Sprockets. With the time machine taking such a beating it is broken for good, and the Flintstones and Rubbles are trapped in the future -- but has their car absorbed enough energy to get them home? |

I Yabba-Dabba Do! (1993):
This Valentine's movie -- the first of three specials designed to modernize the Flintstones -- brings us our favorite stone-age family with a 90's twist. Like today's world, the prehistoric Bedrock has seen a lot of progress. Huge high-rise apartments and shopping centers have sprung up -- in the traditional Bedrock stone-age style of course. Other signs of the times are prehistoric versions of TV dinners, microwaves, roller blades, computers, and even male stripper Rockindales. Everything is busier and the streets seem more congested -- plus the cavewomen now have careers outside of the home.
There are a few things missing from this special; for starters, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm's friends are no where to be seen (they aren't even in attendance at the wedding!!). Also, major liberties are taken in references to Fred and Wilma's wedding -- suggesting that the couple was married in a Rock Vegas wedding chapel (we know from the original series that they were married by Judge Wedrock in a combination coffee shop/chapel near Rock Mountain Inn). Beyond these things, it's fun to see the characters again in another stage of life -- in the tradition of TV show reunions.
As the story begins, Fred loses the Flintstones' nest egg in a bet -- just as Wilma announces that she and Betty are opening a catering business. Pebbles --- now a gopher at an advertising agency -- is now madly in love with Bamm-Bamm, who is now a mechanic. When they surprise their families with plans to marry, Fred does everything he can to stop the wedding so Wilma doesn't find out that he has lost their nest egg (and also over the fear of losing his little Pebbly-Poo). Fred then loses all of Barney's savings in a scheme to get funds for the wedding -- starting a war between the families and prompting the kids to run off to Rock Vegas to elope.
Determined to make Wilma and Pebbles happy and make up for his mistakes, Fred drags Barney to Rock Vegas in search of the kids. After inadvertently getting chased by a group of Wedding Wacker thugs, the kids and their fathers barely make it back to Bedrock in time for the wedding (which incidentally gets funded by Rock Vegas casino winnings!!). |

Hollyrock-A-Bye Baby(1993):
Things have certainly come a long way. When Wilma was "with child", the word "pregnant" wasn't even allowed to be used on television; now we actually get to see Pebbles screaming her lungs out in the delivery room!!! Plus, this movie is full of prehistoric celebrity cameos galore.
Things start with the Rubbles and Flintstones getting the news that they are gonna be grandparents and heading out to Hollyrock to visit the kids. Pebbles is busy with her advertising career, while Bamm-Bamm is trying desperately to sell his screenplay -- and neither is prepared to deal with a month-long visit from their smothering parents. As Wilma and Betty take over preparations for the baby, Fred and Barney set out to sell Bamm-Bamm's screenplay -- against his wishes.
Fred starts stalking actress Shelly Millstone, trying to peddle the screenplay, and inadvertently gets his bowling ball switched with a giant stolen pearl -- inciting the wrath of a crime boss. Meanwhile, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm are frustrated with their mothers taking control of their life and home, all while Pebbles is working so hard trying to promote a new film.
At the conclusion of the movie -- which includes a mad chase through Hollyrock involving a motor home, a tour bus full of sightseers, a purloined bicycle, an irate painter on foot, and Fred's screaming mother-in-law -- Pebbles finally makes it to the hoospital and gives birth to twins, tow-headed Roxy -- who inherits her father's strength, and redheaded Chip. |

A Flintstones Christmas Carol (1994):
Fred's ego gets a workout when he wins the part of Scrooge in the Bedrock Community Theatre Christmas play. As opening night draws closer, Fred seems to fall more and more into his part, even neglecting his baby daughter Pebbles and wife Wilma --- who is pulling double-duty as stage manager and costume designer. His arrogance starts to drive everyone crazy, and his obsession with his part causes him to forget to buy presents for his family. When he finally does make it to the store, he is forced to leave his gifts at the store to get wrapped so he's not late for his debut.
Meanwhile, Wilma and the Rubbles get angry with Fred when he forgets to pick up Pebbles from cave-care, and the Bedrock Bug flu starts to overtake the cast --- causing Wilma to have to take over some of the roles. Fred can only think of himself though, until he starts to feel the actual part of Scrooge as he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas. Fred starts to learn the lessons of Christmas and feels the guilt over how he has treated his family in time to give his family the Christmas they deserve ---- but not before being overcome by the Bedrock Bug. |
