Medal.Of.Honor.Airborne
Medal of Honor: Airborne is a World War II first-person shooter computer
game and the 11th installment of the Medal of Honor series. It was developed
by EA Los Angeles and was released worldwide on the PC and Xbox 360 in
early September 2007. A PS2 and Wii version was set to be released but was
cancelled in 2007. A PlayStation 3 version was released late November
2007. The game takes place in the European theater of World War II,
and is the first in the series to focus on paratrooper activities.
In the single-player mode, the player takes on the role of PFC Boyd Travers,
a paratrooper in the US 82nd Airborne Division. Missions include various
insertions into Italy, northern France, the Netherlands and Germany, each one
beginning with a jump behind enemy lines, and success requiring completion of
given objectives. Airborne also features a multiplayer mode available for online
play, where users have the choice of fighting for the Allies and parachuting
down to the battlefield, or fighting for the Axis and starting on the ground,
defending the position from enemy paratroopers.
The game uses a heavily-modified Unreal Engine 3. Airborne employs a
nonlinear gameplay style whereby the player can start the game anywhere in the
map by directing where they land, as opposed to previous linear FPS games
where the start point and direction is already laid out, such as Allied Assault.
Expansions and modifications
Patches
A version 1.1 patch was released by EA on October 5, 2007. This patch enables
players to join dedicated servers, as well as fixing various gameplay and multiplayer
issues such as the damage dealt by anti-tank weapons such as the Panzerschreck.
An update to this patch, version 1.1ds, was released on October 30, 2007, fixing
several problems with dedicated server functionality.
A second patch was released on December 13, 2007. The patch adds support for
24 players, edits various maps and adds two new ones, and balances the
multiplayer weapons, bringing the total size of the patch to 1.3GB.
A third patch was released on March 7, 2008. This one adds new features and two
new maps to the game and also edits various existing features. The updates' size
is 1.1GB because of the 2 new maps and because all maps were edited to include
Objective mode. The dedicated server released on the same time as patch 1.3 was
a new build because patching the existing server is as big as a new one. It is also
stated that a Linux version of the dedicated is being worked on and will be
released soon.
Third-party mods
EA had expressed a desire to make the game extremely mod-friendly. EA had
said that an SDK/MDK would be released on their website soon after the game
shipped, along with tools export/import models in various 3D editing programs.
However, such support was not forthcoming after release and there is little appetite
in the MoH modding community to work on the game. EA has now stated that
the mod tools will not be released.
Soundtrack
Medal of Honor: Airborne (soundtrack)
All the in-game musical scores and tracks on the Medal of Honor: Airborne
soundtrack were composed by Michael Giacchino, who also composed scores
for the previous Medal of Honor titles Underground, Allied Assault, and Frontline,
including the main theme for the whole series. The Airborne soundtrack has been
said by Giacchino to be based on the Medal of Honor themes of the past, but
"brings a dark uncertainty that communicates the ominous journey of the first
US Airborne combat troops". |

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (MOHAA) is a first-person shooter (FPS)
computer game developed by 2015, Inc. and created by Steven Spielberg.
It is the 3rd installment of the Medal of Honor series. The game, based on the
Quake III Arena engine with modifications from Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.²,
simulates infantry combat in the European and North African Theaters during
World War II. Allied Assault is the first game in the Medal of Honor series to
be released for Windows, and the only one to be ported to Linux.
In the game the player takes on the role of Lt. Mike Powell of the United
States Army Rangers who works for the OSS. Single player missions include
assaulting German bases in Algiers and Norway, storming Omaha Beach on
D-Day, and rescuing comrades behind enemy lines in occupied France. The
original game's Omaha Beach mission is often compared to Steven Spielberg's
1998 film Saving Private Ryan. This level was re-created in Medal of Honor:
Frontline for consoles. Other elements in the game are also comparable to the
film, like the "Sniper Town" level and the "Guarding of the Bridge" level where
the final battle sequence of the movie is very similar in action and visuals
to the game.
The game has been re-released as the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault Deluxe
Edition which includes the Medal of Honor: Spearhead expansion pack, two
strategy guides, music from Allied Assault, and a preview of Medal of Honor:
Pacific Assault, and the Medal of Honor Allied Assault War Chest which
includes the game and both expansion packs.
Expansion packs
Spearhead is the first expansion pack for Allied Assault. It was developed by
EA Los Angeles. Spearhead re-enacts 3 major European Theater battles
through the eyes of Sgt. Jack Barnes (who is voiced by Gary Oldman), a
paratrooper of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.
As Barnes, players land behind the Atlantic Wall on D-Day in Normandy,
hold the line near Bastogne in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge, and
infiltrate Berlin before the Red Army begins their attack. Spearhead adds
Russian and British weapons to the player's arsenal as well as being available
for multiplayer selection.
Breakthrough is the second expansion pack for Medal of Honor: Allied
Assault this time developed by TKO Software where the player takes the
role of Sgt. John Baker of the US 34th Infantry Division. This campaign covers
the Battle of Kasserine Pass, the turning point of the North African campaign,
the fall of Bizerte and the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943, along with the epic
race to Messina, Italy between George Patton's 7th U.S. Army and Bernard
Law Montgomery's British 8th Army, the bloody Battle of Monte Cassino,
followed by the amphibious landings and defense of the beachhead at Anzio,
Italy in 1944. Breakthrough adds Italian weapons for single player and
multiplayer as well as the British and Russian weapons from Spearhead.
As a note, there were in fact two men named John Baker in the United States
Army who received the Medal of Honor. (One during the Indian Wars and
one during the Vietnam War.) |

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault is the 7th installment of the Medal of Honor
series. It was developed by EA Games for the PC. This edition puts the player
in the role of Pvt. Thomas Conlin, a U.S. Marine in the Pacific Theater of
Operations in World War II. It also uses the Havok physics engine. Levels
include the Attack on Pearl Harbor, the Makin Island raid, the Guadalcanal
Campaign, and the Battle of Tarawa. The game is primarily a First-Person
Shooter, with the exception of one level in which the player flies an SBD
Dauntless in the middle of a dog fight. The game's timeline is set in the earlier
stages of the war beginning with Boot Camp and pre-December 7th Pearl Harbor
(1940-1941), and ending with the Battle of Tarawa (1943).
The game has been released worldwide, with both a standard CD edition and
a special Director's Edition DVD, which includes some bonus features and |
