Review
by Kozo: There's this missing piece of microfilm and Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock team up to get it. Plot-wise, that's about it for this lightweight action picture from director Corey Yuen. There are some miniature hijinks featuring a trio of losers played by John Sham, Mang Hoi and Tsui Hark (yep, that Tsui Hark), but little other wackiness exists in the movie. Little acting exists either, but that's okay, because Yes Madam makes up for all of the above deficiencies with some of the most bone-crunching action sequences ever seen. Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock both do some spectacular work, and Corey Yuen keeps the action front and center. After witnessing all the glass-breaking mayhem, you may even forgive Michelle Yeoh for dressing like a member of the Go-Gos. This movie is dated, but does anyone really care? I don't. Besides, there's a chapter skip on my remote control. (Kozo 1997)

China O'Brien (Cynthia Rothrock) funkcjonariuszka policji w wielkim mieście, pewnej nocy w wyniku nieszczęśliwego zbiegu okoliczności zabija młodego chłopaka. Nie mogąc pogodzić się z tym, co zrobiła, postanawia odwiesić broń na kołek i oddać policyjną odznakę. Wraca do rodzinnego miasteczka z nadzieją na odzyskanie spokoju, ale tam szybko okazuje się, że miastem rządzi lokalny bandyta, z którym nie może sobie poradzić szeryf, prywatnie ojciec Chiny.

The Skinny: One of the great Hong Kong action comedies is this dazzling, infectiously enjoyable concoction from Sammo Hung, who was apparently at the height of his powers.
Review
by Kozo: This all-star action comedy is one of Sammo Hung’s finest pictures. Hung plays Chin, a small-time criminal who returns to his hometown of Hanshui to run a brothel. He plans to derail the Shanghai Express, a train carrying more than a few millionaires. He hopes the wealthy travelers will spend money in Hanshui and revitalize the local business.
However, problems arise in the form of some evil bad guys (including Dick Wei, Richard Norton and Cynthia Rothrock) who want to steal a map with the locations of China’s Terracotta Warriors from some Japanese passengers (Yasuaki Kurata and Yukari Oshima) who shouldn’t be in possession of the map themselves.
Furthermore, Chin is wanted by government agent Kenny Bee and local sheriff Yuen Biao, who’s really a fireman and only became a policeman when the former group of police (Eric Tsang, Lam Ching-Ying, Mang Hoi, Yuen Wah, and Wu Ma) robbed the town’s bank and tried to escape by hitching a ride on the Shanghai Express. Somehow everyone ends up back in Hanshui for the final, action-packed twenty minutes.
Yes, this movie has a convoluted cast of characters, but the action is surprisingly easy to follow and the film is full of pleasures. There are some great fight sequences, including Sammo Hung vs. Cynthia Rothrock and Yuen Biao vs. Dick Wei. The comedy is engaging, with a couple of truly funny set pieces, and the stunts are impressive in an almost nonchalant manner. An absolute must-see for any true fan of Hong Kong Cinema. (Kozo 1997)
