The Harper brothers Charlie and Alan are almost opposites but form a great team. After years they had little in common except their dislike for their mundane, maternally cold but domineering mother Evelyn, Allan, a compulsively neat chiropractor and control-freak, is thrown out by his manipulative wife Judith who nevertheless gets him to pay for everything and do most jobs in the house. Charlie, a freelance jingle composer in a luxurious beach-house and irresistible Casanova who rarely gets up before brunch around noon, puts him up 'temporarily' with his son Jake, a lazy fat school kid who shuttles between his parents. This starts off the sitcom around their conflicting lifestyles, such as how to raise the boy (who now has an efficient, caring dad for the boring stuff while having a ball with his fun-loving sugar uncle who teaches him boyish things), be moralistic or have fun, a stickler or popular, what's a 'white' lie... Then one day Joon-soo's parents decides to go out of town. Joon-soo decides then and there to throw a party at his parent's home. He then goes shopping for groceries and comes upon an unexpected surprise. A little toddler sits in a shopping basket wearing the name tag "Han Wooram" and points to Joon-soo as his father!
He then takes the baby home and tries to find the baby's real parents. When he can't find the parents, Joon-soo even tries to abandon the baby but always fails. He then takes the kid to school which causes further scandal and a suspension. But during this time an unexpected event occurs between Joon-soo and Woo-ram

In 1943, in the Russian front, the decorated leader Rolf Steiner is promoted to Sergeant after another successful mission. Meanwhile the upper-class and arrogant Prussian Captain Hauptmann Stransky is assigned as the new commander of his squad. After a bloody battle of Steiner's squad against the Russian troops led by the brave Lieutenant Meyer that dies in the combat, the coward Stransky claims that he led his squad against the Russian and requests to be awarded with the Iron of Cross to satisfy his personal ambition together with his aristocratic family. Stransky gives the names of Steiner and of the homosexual Lieutenant Triebig as witnesses of his accomplishment, but Steiner, who has problems with the chain of command in the army and with the arrogance of Stransky, refuses to participate in the fraud. When Colonel Brandt gives the order to leave the position in the front, Stransky does not retransmit the order to Steiner's squad, and they are left alone surrounded by the enemy and having to fight to survive.

Does it take a genius to create at least a bearable blockbuster movie when you have a solid budget of 40mln and and a famous book to form and back up the script? Apparently, yes. With no style or substance, Obitaemyy Ostrov manages to put much of its audience to sleep or make them shake their heads in disbelief. I wanted to be as objective as possible, but there's basically nothing I could have praised. From the retarded (and redubbed!) main leads who's primary objective was to look cute to loads of pointless scenes and a permanent sense of deja vu - the movie is a failure in every possible aspect. They say if you read the book before watching the flick, things may get better. I'm not sure whether it explains the painfully bad acting, pathetic CGI and downright ridiculous dialogues. Try not to laugh during the moments which were supposed to be emotional and dramatic. Ugh.

Meanwhile, Sam Lowry, who has been dreaming about Jill, gets sidetracked by his fantasies and ends up also being a victim of the counter productivity of the government.

Caught this movie at a film festival in Los Angeles. Fairly standard story about revenge. A man wants to kill another man's daughter because that other man killed his girlfriend accidentally. Some minor plot holes and a few things just didn't make sense. But I did like the "feel" of the film. But what I really liked, a lot, were some of the performances. Surprisingly excellent acting for an indie/low budget movie. In fact, it was just some REALLY excellent acting period, even if it were a big budget A list film. Wonder how that got so many good actors together quite frankly. Very very good. There was not a weak performance in the bunch. The characters Chas, Sully, Toni and Pickle were particularly wonderful and memorable. Not taking away from any other actor in the film, it's just that those performances were very top notch with some fantastic moments. Definitely worth watching, even more than once, just to catch these performances. Ya never know I suppose. Anyway, all in all, I enjoyed it.

When Eric goes down to try and help the woman escape, he ends up trapped within the cube. And to make matters worse, the superiors of the cube send an unorthodox man named Jax to sort things out. The other worker (named Dodd) behind the cube tries his best to stop Jax from finding Eric. But time grows short, and Dodd can only do so much to save his friend and the other victims of the cube. And so it remains up to Eric to team up with both Rains and Haskell, a hostile victim of the cube. But there are many dangers up ahead.
