Elizabeth: The Golden Age is the 2007 film sequel to the film Elizabeth. It stars Cate Blanchett and is based on events during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Written by William Nicholson and Michael Hirst and produced by Working Title Films, The Golden Age is directed by Shekhar Kapur. The film has music composed by Craig Armstrong and A. R. Rahman.
It was filmed at Shepperton Studios and various locations around the United Kingdom with an estimated production budget of 50 to 60 million USD.

Cate Blanchett, incoronata cu un Oscar, revine in rolul care a lansat-o in 1998, Elizabeth. Isi regaseste curtea aproape intacta in frunte cu regizorul Shekhar Kapur si actorul Geoffrey Rush, intr-o poveste in care drama istorica este impodobita cu tradari si amoruri: Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Nou venit la curte este Clive Owen, in rolul lui Sir Walter Raleigh.
In 1585, regina Elizabeth deja incheiase aproape trei decenii de domnie, presarati cu sange si tradari inabusite. Contextul international nu este unul prielnic reginei: Philip II al Spaniei, sprijinit de Roma si de Inchizitie, incearca sa impuna un tratat protestantei eretice care sa readuca Anglia in sanul bisericii romano-catolice. Pregatindu-se pentru apararea regatului, Elizabeth incearca sa echilibreze vechile vasalitati regale cu pasiunea sa pentru Raleigh. Incapabila sa-si stapaneasca patima amoroasa, Elizabeth isi incurajeaza doamna de onoare, Bess, sa se imprietenesca cu Raleigh pentru a-l putea tine la curte, dar intre cei doi deja se instaleaza intimitatea.
Filmul este povestea unei femei indragostite, obligata sa-si cenzureze iubirea, sa-si loveasca nemilos dusmanii si sa-si pastreze nestirbita imaginea de simbol al puterii. Regizat de Shekhar Kapur, filmul se bazeaza pe scenariul lui William Nicholson (Gladiator) si Michael Hirst (Elizabeth). Echipa a reusit sa recreeze curtea regala din sec. XVI , adesea utilizand situri istorice ca fundal al dramei sau filmand in Studiourile Shepperton de langa Londra. Multi coechiperi il cunosteau pe Kapur din filmul precedent, printre ei aflandu-se operatorul Remi Adefarasin, monteurul Jill Bilcock, autoarea costumelor Alexandra Byrne, sau cea care a semnat machiajul si coafurile: Jenny Shircore.
Autorul decorurilor Guy Hendrix Dyas si compozitorii Craig Armstrong si Ar Rahman sunt printre noii-veniti in echipa.
