Stefan and Dolly Oblonsky have had a little spat and Stefan has asked his sister, Anna Karenina, to come down to Moscow to help mend the rift. Anna's companion on the train from St. Petersburg is Countess Vronsky who is met at the Moscow station by her son. Col. Vronsky looks very dashing in his uniform and it's love at first sight when he looks at Anna and their eyes meet. Back in St. Petersburg they keep running into each other at parties. Since she has a husband and small son, they must be very discreet if they are going to see each other alone.
L'heroine du roman de Tolstoi, Anna Karenine, est l'epouse sensible et jolie d'un haut personnage uniquement preoccupe de sa carriere. Aucune tendresse n'existe entre les epoux ; leur enfant n'arrive mźme pas a attirer l'affection de son pere. Anna s'affiche bientot avec un parent, le comte Alexis Wronsky. Le mari, informe par la rumeur publique, songe a divorcer. Il pardonne a la vue de sa femme en danger de mort, mais n'en devient pas plus affectueux pour autant. Nouvelle rechute de la jeune femme. Elle revient plus tard voir son enfant et demande le divorce pour epouser son amant. Le mari refuse. Elle se jette sous un train.
