Based on the Germanic myth "Das Nibelungenlied" and the Nordic "Volsunga Saga" which also inspired the four-opera cycle by Richard Wagner and J.R.R. Tolkien's epic "The Lord of the Rings", this is the story of the young blacksmith Siegfried, who, not knowing that he is heir to a conquered kingdom, becomes popular with the Burgunds by slaying their bane, the dragon Fafnir. When the reward seems to be a huge treasure, Siegfried ignores the curse that lies on the hoard - which now seems to endanger his love to beautiful Norse warrior queen Brunhild.

Avand la baza mitul gemanic "Das Nibelungenlied" si cel nordic "Volsunga Saga" (care a inspirat opera lui Richard Wagner si "The Lord of the Rings" a lui J.R.R. Tolkien), filmul este povestea tanarului fierar Siegfried, mostenitorul unui regat cucerit.
Acesta, fara a avea cunostinta despre acest lucru, devine foarte popular intre burgunzi dupa ce il omoara pe dragonul Fafnir, napasta care se abate mereu asupra lor.
Cand afla ca recompensa este o comoara enorma, Siegfried ignora blestemul care dainuie asupra acesteia si pune in pericol dragostea lui pentru frumoasa regina a luptatorilor Norse, Brunhilda.
