Andy este inventator și tocmai i-a venit ideea unui uimitor produs de curățare, doar că nimeni nu vrea să-l comercializeze. Ca să-și transforme invenția într-un succes, Andy începe un turneu de promovare și o ia și pe mama lui cu el. Văduvă și singură, Joyce (Barbra Streisand) de-abia așteaptă să înceapă călătoria de opt zile, cu 4500 de kilometri de șofat în program, doar că acestea se vor dovedi mai greu de suportat pentru Andy decât credea inițial.
