Acțiunea filmului este plasată într-un viitor apropiat, în care Pământul este invadat de o rasă extraterestră extrem de ostilă. Întreaga planetă este atacată în mod constant, iar omenirea abia mai poate face față.
Ofițerul William Cage (Tom Cruise) nu a călcat niciodată pe câmpul de luptă, dar se vede prins subit într-o misiune sinucigașă. Deși este ucis în doar câteva minute, Cage se trezește în mod inexplicabil la începutul zilei fatidice, retrăind în mod repetat aceleași experiențe care s-au încheiat cu moartea sa.
Însă, cu fiecare bătălie purtată, Cage devine din ce în ce mai experimentat și, împreună cu ofițerul Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), ajunge din ce în ce mai aproape de înfrângerea extratereștrilor.
Tom Cruise și Emily Blunt formează o echipă imbatabilă în superproducția SF Edge of Tomorrow: Prizonier în timp, un film Warner Bros. Pictures și Village Roadshow Pictures.
