Talentele a doi dintre cei mai talentați povestitori din lume – Roald Dahl și Steven Spielberg – se vor combina pentru prima oară pentru a aduce pe marile ecrane iubita carte pentru copii „Marele Uriaș Prietenos”, devenită o lucrare clasică a genului.
Regizată de Spielberg, producţia relatează povestea unei orfane şi a Uriaşului care îi face cunoştinţă cu fascinanta, dar periculoasa lui lume. Spre deosebire de toţi ceilalţi asemenea lui, Marele Uriaş Prietenos (Mark Rylance) este extrem de amabil şi gentil.
Deşi la început micuţa Sophie se teme de lumea uriaşă în care a ajuns, îşi dă seama repede că însoţitorul ei este o creatură blândă, iar curiozitatea o împinge să pună zeci de întrebări. Amicul ei o învaţă totul despre magie şi felul în care transmite vise copiilor de pe Pământ, dar o avertizează în acelaşi timp că o revoltă a giganţilor este pe cale să distrugă echilibrul pământenilor. Astfel, misiunea celor doi va fi aceea de a salva omenirea de uriaşul pericol din universul magic, pe cale să izbucnească.
