Este anul 1927, iar povestea începe la câteva luni după ce Newt a ajutat la descoperirea și capturarea infamului vrăjitor întunecat, Gellert Grindelwald. Cu toate acestea, așa cum a promis că va face, Grindelwald a realizat o evadare dramatică și a adunat mai mulți adepți la cauza sa, ridicând vrăjitorii mai presus de toate ființele non-magice.
Singurul care ar putea să-l oprească este vrăjitorul pe care l-a numit cândva cel mai drag prieten al său, Albus Dumbledore.
Dumbledore va trebui să caute ajutorul vrăjitorului care l-a învins pe Grindelwald odată, fostul său student, Newt Scamander. Aventura îl reunește pe Newt cu prietenii americani Tina, Queenie și Jacob, dar misiunea lui va testa loialitatea acestora, în timp ce se confruntă cu noi pericole într-o lume a vrăjitorilor din ce în ce mai periculoasă și divizată.
