Un escroc mărunt cunoscut drept The Padre, încearcă să scape de braţul lung al legii în Columbia, dar şi de fostul şerif Nemes, care ajutat de poliţistul localnic, Gaspar, se află pe urmele escrocului, din motive personale. Încercuit într-un mic orăşel, reuşeşte să fure o maşină cu care fuge, dar are surpriza să constate că pe bancheta din spate a maşinii, e şi micuţa Lena de 16 ani, o orfană ce trăieşte ca şi el din mici escrocherii pe care le face cu turiştii naivi. Părintele refuză la început să accepte compania Lenei în călătoria sa, dar banii pe care i-a strâns Lena din micile ei escrocherii, îl conving să nu o abandoneze pe drum. După câteva mici furturi comise împreună, Lena îi împărtăşeşte planul său pentru un jaf nemaîntalnit, o cupă de aur ce se află în biserica orfelinatului în care a crescut. Cei doi plănuiesc marele jaf, dar oare Nemes şi Gaspar au renunţat să-i urmărească, sau încăpăţânarea bătrânului şerif va duce la un final neaşteptat?
