În Lumea nu e de ajuns, cel de-al 19-lea film cu James Bond, agentul 007 trebuie încă o dată să salveze lumea, să cunoască femei superbe și să distrugă cu nonșalanță ultimele gadget-uri hi-tech construite de Q (Desmond Llewelyn într-o ultimă apariție) și de succesorul lui, R (John Cleese).
De data aceasta, Bond (Pierce Brosnan) trebuie să prevină o explozie nucleară într-una din cele mai mari conducte de petrol a lumii și să o protejeze pe Elektra King (Sophie Marceau), moștenitoarea afacerilor cu petrol ale unui miliardar ucis. Ținta lui este Renard (Robert Carlyle), un terorist implicat cândva în răpirea frumoasei Electra. Renard are un handicap neobișnuit: un glonț înfipt în creier îl împiedică să simtă durerea, dar nu și gelozia când Bond și Electra devin mult prea intimi, astfel încât triunghiul Bond-Elektra-Renard are potențial explozibil mai mare decât conducta din Marea Caspică.
Din echipa lui Bond face parte dr. Christmas Jones (Denise Richards), o expertă în arme nucleare cu un sex appeal greu de ignorat, iar Robbie Coltrane își reia rolul agentului dublu Valentin Zukovsky, de data asta aliatul lui Bond.
