Drama este inspirată după romanul autobiografic al cercetătoarei americane Dian Fossey. În anii ’60, inspirată de antropologul Louis Leakey, Dian se dedică studierii primatelor. Hotărâtă să salveze gorilele pe cale de dispariţie, eroina pleacă în Rwanda, unde are parte de tot felul de aventuri şi chiar ajunge să-şi rişte viaţa pentru a veni în apărarea animalelor vânate de braconieri.
Filmul ,,Printre gorile” este deţinătorul a două premii Globul de Aur ( pentru cea mai bună actriţă şi cea mai bună coloană sonoră ) şi cinci nominalizări la Oscar ( pentru interpretare feminină, scenariu, sunet, montaj, coloană sonoră ).
