No, there's no limit on the number of pages as such, although I think
I read somewhere that the Page field that displays the number stops
working at some large number. Some specialists prepare documents with
well over 1000 pages. Word limits the amount of text in a single
document to 32MB, exclusive of graphics and other objects.

Word 2010 is slow to open a 100MB RTF file that 2003 was able to open in less than half the time.
We are upgrading an office from Office 2003 to Office 2010. In the process we are leaving 2003 on the machines to ease the transition. We have several reports that create RTF files that are around 100MB in size. Word 2003 can open the file in roughly 4 minutes, but word 2010 takes 7 minutes to open it, and then I am unable to do anything with the file until it is finished counting pages.
I don't expect it to be instant, but it seems like a significant slowdown.
System Information: WinXP Sp3, 1GB RAM, 2.53Ghz P4.
I have tried turning off "Update automatic links at open" even though the document has no links.
The test scenario is to open the document, select all text and change the font size to 8, so it will fit on a normal sheet of paper. In 2010, the processor is pegged at 100% while it is adjusting the font and counting pages. 2003 completes this task in less than 5 minutes. 2010 is still processing after 20 minutes.
