Doi tineri îndrăgostiți, Diana și David (Demi Moore și Woody Harrelson), căsătoriți recent, au probleme financiare datorită recesiunii, fiind în pericol să piardă toți banii pe care îi dețin. Cei doi decid să meargă la Las Vegas, pentru a încerca să câștige suma de care au nevoie pentru a-și duce visul la bun sfârșit: construirea unei case.
După ce pierd tot ce au, un multi-milionar excentric (Robert Redford) le oferă un milion de dolari pentru o noapte cu Diana. Deși amândoi sunt de acord că aceasta ar putea fi o ieșire din dilema lor financiară, propunerea le amenință relația.
Deși a avut un succes uriaș în întreaga lume, filmul nu a fost apreciat de critici, primind numeroase nominalizări la "Zmeura de Aur".
