Credeţi că ştiţi totul despre romani? De la ei avem sisteme sofisticate de drumuri, care de luptă şi calendarul modern. Şi, desigur, ei au fost nevoiţi să facă faţă hoardelor barbare care ameninţau mereu pacea, siguranţa şi prosperitatea imperiului lor. Nu-i aşa? "Barbarii lui Terry Jones" prezintă o abordare cu totul nouă a istoriei romane. Nu numai că ne oferă şansa de a-i vedea pe romani dintr-o perspectivă "non-romană", dar ne dezvăluie şi faptul că majoritatea popoarelor categorisite de romani ca fiind necivilizate, sălbatice şi barbare, erau, de fapt, grupuri organizate de oameni motivaţi şi inteligenţi, care nu urmăreau să răstoarne Roma şi nici să jefuiască Imperiul. Terry Jones străbate geografia Imperiului Roman şi istoria sa de 700 de ani, aducând cu sine umor şi pasiune, dar şi cele mai recente informaţii în domeniu, pentru a ne modifica perspectiva asupra moştenirii lăsate de Imperiul Roman şi asupra creării lumii moderne.
Episodul 1: The Primitive Celts
În "De Bello Gallico", Iulius Caesar a scris că a invadat Galia în anul 58 î.Hr. pentru a proteja graniţele nordice ale Imperiului de volatilele triburi celtice. Dar relatarea lui Cezar ascundea un adevăr mai sinistru. Conform romanilor, celţii erau un popor războinic şi analfabet. Dar Terry Jones descoperă că celţii aveau cunoştinţe matematice cu mult peste cele ale Romei. Aveau o societate miloasă, care îi proteja pe cei tineri şi pe cei neajutoraţi. Era o societate construită pe baza unei reţele comerciale care se întindea cu mult dincolo de graniţele lumii celtice.
