Le orme / Footprints on the Moon (1975)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071950/

Synopsis - Footprints is a very interesting movie that is somewhat difficult to categorize. "Psychological thriller" is the most appropriate description I can think of. The female protagonist, Alice Cespi, discovers that she doesn't remember anything of the last three days. The only clue she has is a torn photo of a hotel. She is also haunted by a recurring, very vivid, dream about a science fiction movie that she believes she saw many years ago. In her pursuit of the truth behind her amnesia she doesn't trust anyone, but little by little it becomes obvious that she has visited the town where the hotel is located before.

Un posto ideale per uccidere / Oasis of Fear (1971)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067602/

Synopsis - Another fine early Giallo from the diverse Lenzi, a rather bloodless and character driven film that doesn't really follow the Giallo tradition or for that matter let on where its going until the end, Lovelock and Muti are very good as the young sexually charged couple, who never hesitate to get naked, although Muti's nude scenes do seem to have been taken by a body double, Irene Papas as the very hospitable host takes most of the acting plaudits and portrays her characters vulnerability to perfection in a role that also requires her to show a sense of sexual frustration in a multi layered character and despite the fact not a lot happens in the first half of the film, there is a nice tension built up between the three leads. Lenzi also captures a fun frivolous swinging sixties full of flower power hippies, gypsies, sitars, swinging clubs which is defined by a very funky score with some horribly catchy songs by Bruno Lauzi.

Dead Kids / Strange Behavior (1981)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082243/

Synopsis - Experiments at a local lab are connected to a series of brutal murders in a small midwestern town. Confusing but effective chiller, made on a low budget, has a cast of mostly unknowns, but it all comes together. It does leave some uneasiness, and does offer some shocking scenes that, while not elaborate, are still pretty gory. It is a very disturbing, surreal experience, with solid suspense and a good ending. It feels like you're having a bad dream: a nightmarish place, faceless persons, creepy enough to want to get out of, but intriguing enough to want to stay and see what happens. Strange indeed.

Le labbra proibite di Sumurù / The Girl from Rio (1969)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062808/

Synopsis - "The Girl From Rio" (1969) is one of his more coherent, impressively made, larger-budgeted, less sleazy efforts, at least compared to some other works in his gigantic oeuvre. In this one, formerly golden Bond girl Shirley Eaton plays a character widely referred to as Sumitra, although here she's usually called Sunanda (AND despite being based on Sax Rohmer's female villain Sumuru...don't ask). She and her all-woman army plan to conquer the world from their base city of Femina (near Rio), if American playboy on the run Jeff Sutton and crime boss Masius (the always-worth-watching George Sanders) don't get in the way.

Oggi a me... domani a te! / Today We Kill Tomorrow We Die (1968)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063379/

Synopsis - Yes, it is true, giallo master Dario Argento helped write this speghetti western from the late 60s. I have never been a big fan of western movies, but my love of Italian horror cinema has taken me into this genre. They just don't make westerns, or any genre for that matter, like this anymore.

This film has all the great makings of what a good western movie should be. You have the duels, the horse chases, and the classic saloon card game. The fact that this is a low budget film is what attracts me. The sometimes badly dubbed in english also humors me. But put those things a side and you have a pretty good story. The way the final "duel" comes together is classic.

Messaggi da forze sconosciute / The Silent Flute / Circle of Iron (1965)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078975/

Synopsis - A young martial artist, Cord the Seeker, competes for and loses the right to go on a quest for the Book of All Knowlege held by a wizard named Zetan, but he goes along the path to seek Zetan anyway. Along the way, he meets strange tests and challenges by enemies and allies - often having difficulty determining which is which.

Trivia - According to a recent biography of Bruce Lee the film was intended to be shot in 1969 with Lee playing the 4 roles of The Blind Man, Monkeyman, Death and Changsha, and the lead role of Cord was offered to Steve McQueen. McQueen however turned down the role after remarking that he wasn't prepared to make Lee a star, and instead it was offered to James Coburn. Disagreements over location shooting (Lee preferred India) led the film to be abandoned until after his death when the rights were acquired by David Carradine. Originally karate champion Joe Lewis was offered the role of Cord but declined as he was unwilling to work with Carradine. Jeff Cooper, a friend of Carradine's, finally took the part and Lewis ended up supervising the re-shooting of some of the fight scenes.

La polizia chiede aiuto / What Have They Done to Your Daughters? (1974)

Code:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072007/

Synopsis - From the director of the excellent "What have you done to Solange", "Massimo Dallamano", here is a strange Italian giallo, more a police procedural (an a really lurid tale, a ring of teens used as prostitutes by people in very high places - that was the time, in Italy, when several directors and scripwriters tried their hands on very hot subjects, like this one) than an Argentian thriller (but it is scary enough in a few places and also very gory). It starts with the false suicide of a very young girl, hanged nude under a roof and then proceeds with a lot of cars and bikes chases (the killer is always covered by a motorcycle helmet until the very end - it is possible that the director of Night School took from here the idea of the killer masked with an helmet), almost always running without pauses.
