NUMELE JOCULUI: FOTBAL este povestea plină de conflicte și umor negru a lui Brian Clough (Michael Sheen) și a mandatului său de 44 zile ca manager al campionilor fotbalului englezesc: Leeds United. Acceptând acest post fără a-l avea alături pe locotenentul său de încredere Peter Taylor (Timothy Spall), dar cu un vestiar plin de – în viziunea lui – jucători loiali marelui său rival Don Revie (Colm Meaney), Clough ajunge în poziția de a-și dovedi spiritul războinic și geniul pe parcursul acestor 44 zile.
