What are they
Electronic version of a book or other publication saved in the Microsoft LIT format; includes digital rights management (DRM) information, which protects copyrights by limiting the systems each book can be read on; uses ClearType technology to improve readbility.
To read .LIT files
You need Microsoft Reader for Desktop and Laptop PC and you can download it from Microsoft here - http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/pc.mspx
Note: It has to be activated by Microsoft on-line so it will check if you have a legal copy of Windows and a vaild .NET passport.
File association, installing Microsoft Reader doesn't do this automatically
Microsoft Reader can be associated with you .LIT files by:-
Right-click one of your .LIT files..select open with
Click the Always use the selected program to open this type of file box.
Then browse for Microsoft Reader in the program files folder and select msreader.exe
