Plot

Every wednesday night a few guys have a meal together. There is a game coupled with the meal: each one of them has to bring an "idiot". The game consists in making the idiots talk about there ideas and passions so that the hosts can have a good laugh. At the end they will choose the "idiot of the evening". One of the hosts has invited his idiot home so they could go to the dinner together, but unfortunately he gets a severe pain in his back due to an accident that day and can't go to the "meal of idiots". Even worse is the fact that the idiot tries to help him all the time, and naturally does everything wrong and aggravates every situation.

Absolutely superb biopic from Ken Russell about Henri Gautier, a genius sculptor that was killed in 23 years old. Russell made this film in 1972, but it was a flop. Perhaps this is the reason that it has barely been available anywhere since its first release. What's on display? This film is more "controlled" than other Russell biopics (especially Valentino or Litzomania!), but it still goes wacky in spots. As one watches this film it becomes less a racy subject movie and more of a lesson on the appreciation of true art. One could call this film "Artists in Love (with art)." It treats "art" like Russell's earlier film , Women in Love, treated "love." MGM really should release a DVD of this one day. Please see this whenever you can.
