Alan Parrish este un băieţel care descoperă un joc misterios numit Jumanji. Atunci când îl joacă împreună cu prietena lui, Sarah, lucruri foarte ciudate încep să se întâmple, iar Alan este transportat într-o altă lume, în jungla fermecată din Jumanji, unde râmăne prizonier timp de 26 de ani.
Mulţi ani după aceea, alţi doi copii, Judy si Peter, descoperă jocul în podul casei lui Alan şi, jucându-l, îl eliberează pe Alan din jungla în care supravieţuise până la vârsta de 38 de ani. Împreună, cei trei jucatori trebuie să o găsească pe Sarah, care între timp a crescut şi ea, pentru a termina jocul… înainte ca jocul să-i termine pe ei.
