Personajul interpretat de Anthony Quinn este nagajat de trupele americane pentru a fi ghidul profesorului Bergsson (James Mason) şi al familiei sale într-o zona foarte periculoasă din Munţii Pirinei. Dincolo de spaimele pe care le trăiesc cei care trebuie să treacă munţii, atmosfera este tot mai tensionată fiindca sunt urmariti de un ofiţer SS…
